Review of Bad Form
What would you feel like if you were Billy Wise? You slept and woke up to discover that everything around you had changed. The world that you have always known to be your home is gone; it has vanished with no trace. Now you seem to be stuck in a new and strange world with these rules, which appear odd to you, and the people there are even more weird.
Billy, a computer specialist who resides close to the University of Alabama, skips work one morning due to weird feelings—or was he just feigning an illness? He only had in mind to take care of his farm as he would normally do. Billy carried along with him a machete with which he'd clear the bushes and was at the same time equipped to engage with snakes, which he was sure to come across. What poor Billy didn't know, however, was that he was preparing for an encounter with a strange world where snakes and other animals could communicate with humans. In this strange world, there exists an even more mysterious place called "The House". Billy is drawn there by Bogus, a funny-looking snake. He is further exposed to secrets, mysteries, and undiscovered worlds that are hidden in the walls of "The House". Prepare to be captivated by a tale that leads you further into a world full of magic and mystery.
Okay, so first of all, I have to warn readers: if you don't have a good sense of humor, you can't fully enjoy this book. It involves several humorous texts that would usually require the reader to think deeply to grasp. I must commend Joe Taylor's ability to weave together humor and life lessons in one text. Despite making use of a fictional location that would usually not sound real, Joe was still able to construct the realism of "The House", and the stories around it to a high level. I also love how Joe handled the descriptions in the book; even though the book was written in black and white, it still felt like I was reading a colorful children's book, as I was able to create mental pictures of what the place could possibly look like. This book would be perfect for lovers of adventures and sci-fi stories.
I don't really have any significant downsides to the book, only that it started out boring—the beginning, I mean. At the beginning, one would almost think it's just one of those boring books where the author just thinks he's created something unique. I also got a bit confused at first when I read, "Bad form, the extremest of bad form, dearest. You simply cannot do that to Lady Wisdom". It was later that I got to discover that bad form in this context refers to breaking certain laid-down rules in this strange world, hence the title of the book. Such brilliance from the author, Joe. I don't think this is enough to deduct any stars from my rating of the book. I therefore give this book a 5-out-of-5-star rating. I found no errors while reading, and I can boldly say that it was perfectly edited.
