I have really enjoyed S J Bolton (who now goes by Sharon Bolton) a bit of crime, psychological thriller, love, suspense, great lead characters - she has it all. I read Sacrifice and Blood Harvest, both excellent stand alone books and then Now You See Me, which introduces the fabulous Detective Constable Lacey Flint. Must reads!

Definitely TERRY PRATCHETT!!! He is my absolute favorite author. His books are refreshing and have a wicked sense of humor. I also enjoy how so many of his characters are like real people and not these fake heroes and heroines posturing around all the time. I also love how hes taken old beliefs and legends and made his own world.

Thanx again for all the suggestions. Now I just need some more reading time! :)

For completeness' sake, I would add PD James to this list. Going further back in the crime genre, Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle are obvious alternatives.

Sophie Kinsella definitely. She's an amazingly witty and evocative author. Her perspective on American culture (as seen in the Shopaholic series) is especially enjoyable as well.

This was going to be my suggestion! All of her books are amazing (I'm a huge crime fan, generally speaking). Also, if you're interested in reading plays at all, Marina Carr is an incredible Irish writer (and her stuff tends to be very much on the dark and creepy side, if you're into thrillers).
