This story revolves around a young boy named Stevie, who insists on receiving a second goodnight kiss before going to sleep. To make this bedtime ritual possible, Stevie writes a wishful note and places it in a special tree, expressing his wish for all the animals to give him a goodnight kiss every night. In a heartwarming turn of events, the animals graciously decide to fulfill Stevie's request. Soon, all of the kids wanted a second goodnight kiss from the animals, but would the animals be able to kiss each child before the clock struck midnight, or were there simply too many children? Read the book to find out.

One aspect of the book that appealed to me was William Laible’s writing style. I had no trouble picturing what Stevie's neighborhood may have looked like because the narrations were so vibrant, cozy, and detailed. The zoo animals, barnyard animals, and even forest creatures were vividly and wonderfully described. Every night at about 8:30, the animals would form a line to enter Stevie's room and give him a quick kiss goodnight. I have to admit that reading about some of the animals' kisses—like those of the worms, slugs, and snails—made me a little squeamish. I could picture what it must have been like to get kissed by a slug. Another positive aspect of the story is the various facts and lessons presented to readers throughout, such as table manners, in which small children are encouraged to chew their food slowly and thoroughly rather than being like a horse. Stevie also encourages us to live each day to the fullest and to never take anything for granted. At the end of the book, there are several quotes, my favorite of which is by Robert Kiyosaki: The size of your success is measured by the strength of your desire, the size of your dream, and how you handle disappointment along the way.

I found no fault with the book. I found the book engaging, with a great storyline that both entertains and educates. I rate Stevie Tenderheart Books: A Second Kiss Goodnight (A Bedtime Story) 5 out of 5 stars as it was meticulously edited and I didn't find any grammatical errors.
