Are Libraries Extinct Like Post Offices

I don't think libraries or post offices are extinct. It's way too busy at both of these places whenever I visit them for either to be extinct.

The library in my town is thriving (incidentally the post office is too) and it offers many services other than just book borrowing- DVD borrowing, newspapers, magazines,free internet, services like photocopying and faxing, guest speakers , children's story time, school holiday activities for children etc.

It also has links to an e library and I can borrow ebooks as well as hard copy books.

Yes, Australian libraries embraced the 21st century with a vengeance. As well as library e-books I can download library e-magazines through Zinio. The old saying "Adapt or die" is very appropriate.

Mexican mail is slow and undependable, especially sending anything of value.

Thats what people tell me. Everything goes to Mexico City to be sorted. You could mail a letter across the street, and it would still go to Mexico City.

I recall NEVER being able to mail anything of value, it would be stolen...my parents couldn't even send their grandkids gifts!..

we relied on friends/ family visiting Mexico as " couriers "

No, I think libraries are still being well used but for different reasons. With adding technology into the public library system, more people are going to the library to use the computers or find out about the library's eBooks. Students are also still utilizing the library's as a studying place which leads to some books being taken out.

In my world, libraries are NEVER extinct. Even though I read lots of ebooks and listen to audio books, I still go to my local library all the time. Every day, I would go home, get all the textbooks I need for my homeworks and rush to the library and spend hours in there. It's also a great place to study too.

I think the libraries are adapting well to the new technology available. They not only have the latest tome for the bibliophile, but also offer music, internet, video CD's, and ebooks for lend on the device of your choice.

My library allows us to give them second hand books, and I don't think that it's going extinct. It certainly isn't as common for people to browse the library as it was when I was younger but I still see plenty of people roaming the shelves for books. But, I live in a little town away from the city and every one is very into reading, and environmental friendly stuff.
