The only question I have is, how many millennials did the author meet and interview when comparing the data gathered from external research? Often, research responds to particular interests, and the characterizations of millennials that the author and reviewer mentioned do not seem to the millennials I have met, and socialized with. Are all millennials making the same decisions? Are all millennials the same, or is this book, as well as the research it quotes biased?

I am not sure how much I agree with the author's emphasis on retirement planning. While important, retirement is becoming much more fuzzy than it used to be, with many elderly people switching to less demanding professions and hours rather than retiring outright. Then again, I've only read your review and skimmed the book lightly so far. Perhaps I will understand the author's perspective better once I have time to read the book more completely.

This is a fantastic topic. So many factors influenced millennials financial decisions. Upbringing is one big factor really, and it is underestimated. The culture of savings and investment and how to spending money are exposed to young ages goes a long way to determine what they grow up to do with their financial.

“Millennial Apocalyp$e” by Zane E. Brown and Dr. Donalee Brown” is the result of extensive research that explores millennials’ financial decisions. The authors examined cultural factors, the recessions of 2008 and 2020, risk adverseness, impact of the internet and found all of these factors have affected millennials’ purchases and financial investment decisions. Their in-depth research looked at how the millennials compared to the Greatest Generation and the Baby Boomers on various factors including overconfidence, desire for instant gratification, lack of desire for face-to-face relationships and a high level of distrust. The example of a Baby boomer couple that marries at 25 can pay off their 30-year mortgage at age 55 and have 10 years to save for retirement. Millennials do not share these characteristics, may have student loans, may wait to get married and have children in their mid-30s, have a 30-year mortgage that they pay off at age 65 and will need to work into their 70s to save for retirement. In addition, social security might be gone, which will make things worse. The two major recessions had an impact on Baby Boomers but it was much worse for Millennials and definitely affected their financial plans. Does this generation have hopes to do better than their parents which has been the goal for other generations since WWII? The research indicates that Millennials are going to not do very well in retirement. All generations from Baby Boomers on should read this book.

Doing research before you write a book is very important and I like how you pointed that out. If someone writes a book in a way that shows they have no idea what they are talking about, they will be ridiculed and instead of helping people learn, they will prevent people from learning.
