being an American is really about your state of mind than skin color, religion, etc. Having no knowledge of Shia Muslim culture, I think it'd be interesting to read about this and learn more. I'd also be interested to read about the American freedoms that the author values.

An interesting non-fiction book that accurately depicts what it means to be an immigrant in America. It portrays that your skin colour, ethnicity, or race doesn't matter. Great read. Congrats on #BOTD

This review is comprehensive. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and it has made me interested in the book. Master's humorous storytelling style is something I would like to explore for myself. I would like to live in another country for a while too so I think the author's experience is relevant to me.

Hi @MKJWMcB, I like your comments on Beyond the Golden Door. Americans take so much for granted and do not realize how much better the U.S. is than any other country. Sadly, we could lose our freedoms if the political division in our country continue to widen and could destroy our Constitutional Republic. Voters need to understand the facts and not vote for a wannabe dictator. @Mrlefty0706

"Beyond the Golden Door" by Ali Master passes as a memoir where the author described his life as Pakistani Muslim who migrated to America and adapted to life in a foreign land. Interesting read.

Hi @Tejas Koli, Beyond the Golden Door is a book all Americans should read. Ali moved to the U.S. at a time when Muslim immigrants were accepted in the U.S. Sadly, the former president stopped Muslim immigration and since then Muslims are discriminated against by too many Americans. Ali truly appreciated the freedoms enjoyed by Americans. We need to keep these freedoms and stop discriminating against people of color and religious beliefs. @Mrlefty0706

Ali Master's "Beyond the Golden Door: Seeing the American Dream through an Immigrant's Eyes" is a captivating journey that beautifully captures the essence of the American Dream through the lens of a Pakistani Muslim immigrant. Master's eloquent storytelling, coupled with his insightful reflections on love, family, faith, and freedom, makes this book a compelling read. His candid portrayal of his upbringing in Pakistan, his humorous anecdotes about culture shock in America, and his contemplative exploration of American values resonate deeply with readers from all walks of life. I especially appreciate Master's emphasis on shared values and freedoms as the essence of being American, transcending ethnicity, religion, and skin color. His narrative is both enlightening and inspiring, offering a fresh perspective on the immigrant experience and the enduring allure of America's golden door. Overall, "Beyond the Golden Door" is a must-read for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the immigrant journey and the quintessential American Dream.

It looks interesting as it shows that one's state of mind contributes a lot to their life and brings one through their life.

Your review is fantastic, Cecilia! I sampled an episode where Ali tells about his family background and his journey from Pakistan to the U.S.A. and his delight to having been granted a leave to enter the USA for his studies. So, I agree with your view that Ali's storytelling is absorbing, amusing, and motivated by asserting the core values of the American society. Like you, I think this book deserves nothing less than all stars you awarded it.

The author's emphasis on the idea that being American is a state of mind, rooted in shared values and freedoms, challenges common stereotypes about national identity and promotes a more inclusive perspective on what it means to be part of the United States. Nice review.

Hi @Chipo Imanga, I receive an email from OBC when another member posts comments on the BOTD after I posted my comments. I really enjoyed reading your summary and comments. Too many Americans take these freedoms for granted. In the eyes of an immigrant they see the American Dream. I am proud to be an American but it upsets me to see so many immigrants being discriminated against in our country. We Americans all came from immigrants. Politicians should stop the rhetoric and make immigration reforms so people can immigrate to the U.S. safely and peacefully. @Mrlefty0706

Looking at the prospect of the American dream from Master's eyes is helpful in many ways including but not limited to being able to get insight on what happens when you are new to America and let us see the light of what America looks like. It also gives a peak into the immigrant's life. I love it and I would read it.

Hi @Abiodunakinola, I really liked your comments on Beyond the Golden Door. Ali really wrote an outstanding book. It took him 18 years to write and edit this book and he did a masterful job. He truly understands the American Dream. The U.S. can be described as a melting pot of race, people of color and religious beliefs and it has been this way since the 1700s. Immigration policy reform is needed and Congress has been dragging their feet on this issue for way too long. When Ali immigrated to Texas Muslims were accepted without discrimination. It is a much different country today and we need to reform immigration policies, not stop immigration. The people coming to the southern border are not the criminals politicians tell us they are. Sure, there are some immigrants that should not be allowed but it should not be based on race or religion. @Mrlefty0706
