There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.

William Shakespear, Hamlet

While the plot is worthwhile, I felt that the sudden turn in the narrative is a major drawback as it does not make make any sense. However, you are right. A short novel is fun to read. Considering the fact that the book is filled with many grammar errors, I will pass it.

The author's writing style is captivating and offers comprehensive plot exploration around Rick and the multitude of challenges he faced. Interesting review by the OBC reviewer Chris. Congratulations to the author G. L. Rockey on BOTD!

Thanks for the detailed review which I found very objective and succinct. I'm intrigued by the circumstances that the protagonist(Rick) was in, and how he faced the challenges of life while also dealing with ghosts from his past. The fact that it takes a philosophical turn, allows room for more inspiration. Looking forward to reading this book!

Wow it sounds like Rick has lived quite the colorful life. This sounds like a really soulful book full of rich meaning exploring life’s mysteries and depths. I feel like the sessions between Rick and the psychologist really helped to add to the rich narrative of the story and his life. I’m glad you enjoyed the book. Great review!

The author's use of language, blended with occasional slang, truly transported me into Rick Carlson's world. The narrative felt like a stroll through someone's memories, with a charming touch of humor that made the journey all the more enjoyable.

"The Fish House" by G. L. Rockey is a fictional novel consisting of sixty-eight chapters that follow the life of Rick Carlson. The story begins in Biloxi, Mississippi, with the disappearance of Rick's biological father, Leo Mancuso, after an encounter with his mother, Carmella DeAngelo. Carmella later marries Sid Carlson, who adopts Rick. The book explores Rick's pursuit of a writing career, his troubled relationships, and financial struggles. After inheriting a restaurant, Rick attempts to revive it with his partner, Julie Valach. However, tragedy strikes, leading Rick to embark on therapy sessions with Dr. Sami Prothero, a psychologist, to explore his emotions and the complexities of existence. The book is engaging, thought-provoking, and offers captivating writing style, interesting characters, and an exploration of deep philosophical topics. It does have a jarring transition between narrative styles and some formatting issues. Overall, it is an enjoyable read, although it could benefit from professional editing. It is recommended to lovers of fictional dramas looking for an engaging and compelling first-person narration.

It's a success story, a story where there’s a family involved in. All of those individuals played a lot in helping him become who he is. The most important thing is his dedication and sacrifice to become this person. It should motivate us in defying our own odds. Work Ethic, goal, motivation, sacrifice, family, and beliefs.

Thank you for your honest review. I can't imagine how confusing it must have been for Rick growing up with all of the different people he lived with and different names etc. It was hard enough for me to keep track of them. I did like the conversations, but don't believe this is a good fit for me. I'm sure many others will enjoy it though. I'm glad you liked it.

I am curious about the advice given in chapter 55 and my interest has been piqued. I have added the book to my want-to-read shelf, as I appreciate literature that focuses on life's existential questions, including a search for meaning. This is a must-read. Thanks for the review.

Thanks for the great review. This looks like a great book to read. The author not only retells his tumultuous life experiences, but also gives glimpses into his thoughts and emotions which may be insightful for someone going through a similar experience.

Thank you for the review. The writing style of the author is one thing that can make me like or dislike a book. I'm glad to see this one is good. I respect therapists because of the way they listen and figure out solutions for the troubled. I do hope Rick was able to solve his issues.

While the review notes that this was an interesting read, despite the errors and the switch to a philosophical writing, I have to pass on reading it as Rick's story doesn't sound like one I'd enjoy. I would, however recommend this book to people interesting in finding purpose and learning from other people's journey.

Rick's life seems to be filled with ups and downs. I wonder if he was able to overcome these issues through the therapy sessions. The genre of this book doesn't really appeal to me, so I'll skip this one.
