Regardless of the story and the character similarities the book was still written from pure imagination and creativity. So this book is not to be judged differently

I do not think this book was heretic. The author wrote from his understanding of the Bible.

I don't really think so. This was out of the authors imaginations which stems from the authors personal understanding of the Bible.
