Great Expectations by Charles Dickens was a snooze fest even though I do like the story. It just moves so slow I wanted to claw my eyeballs out.

"Moby-Dick" by Herman Melville is considered a classic, but I found it disappointing. The story moves very slowly and has long sections about whales that seem out of place. While some parts are beautifully written, a lot of it felt too long and complicated.

I've got to mention Les Miserables, the main story is fine but the digressions into the war and plumbing systems meant I couldn't even finish it.

The Secret Garden is the novel that bored me the most. The writing was good. But the content could have had some exciting elements.

I do believe that Othello is up there at the top with every other boring book. I had a migraine trying to read that book. I do not think I will be trying it again.

The perception of a book as "boring" can vary greatly from person to person, and what one reader finds uninteresting, another may find captivating. Classical literature includes a wide range of works, and opinions on what is considered boring will differ. Some readers might find the writing style, themes, or pacing of certain classic books less engaging. However, it's important to remember that classic literature has stood the test of time for a reason and often offers valuable insights into the culture and society of their respective eras.

Ultimately, whether a classic book is boring or not is subjective, and it's worth exploring different classics to find those that resonate with your personal interests and tastes.

Gotta agree with whoever said Les Mis. Although some parts can be very interesting, Hugo goes off on so many tangents that distract from the main plot, that it was hard for me to enjoy. And I'm someone who adores philosophical tangents in my books.
Pride & Prejudice is up there as well. Probably the most boring book I had to study for my GCSEs, and it was so horrendously not my thing that I keep whining about it so many years later!

For over 40 years, I have tried to read Moby-Dick at least once a year; I have occasonally gotten past the first 100 pages. But I just can't finish it. I keep trying though, because I feel like the theme of self-destructive obsession is becoming more and more relevant. I just cannot handle the dense prose and slow moving plot.

On the other hand, Melville's other, much shorter, novels (for example Typee, the account of a sailor who deserts a whaler and ends up on an island populated by a tribe that engages in ritual cannibalism, and is based on Melville's own experience in the South Pacific), are absolutely riveting.

In my opinion if it is boring then it is not a classic. You have stand the test of time to be called a classic.

I found The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka to be very boring! The premise is fascinating and the first chapter hooked me, but the rest of the story is quite tedious and mundane. This was probably the point, but it still made for quite a boring read in my opinion. Luckily it’s pretty short so I am happy to say I still finished reading it.

Another book I really struggled with was The Invisible Man. I read it in high school for a book report and it was a very tedious read. There was lots of dialogue that felt unconnected to the overall plot and I kept hoping for some action. Perhaps I should’ve stuck to reading adventure books!

I haven’t read a lot of classical books, just a few in high school and college. The one I tried reading on my own for leisure and just couldn’t make it through was Emma by Jane Austen. I LOVED Pride and Prejudice so much that I thought I’d enjoy another work of hers but I was so bored to tears that I had to DNF it only 1/3 through.
