Review of Reconfigurement
Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a self-help motivational book. The book focuses on the preparation needed to face retirement. People now live longer than before, so if you retired at age 65 and lived up to 85, you better have enough savings to be able to enjoy the rest of your life. But how do you do that? Well, this book got you covered. Through 13 chapters, the author will explain everything you need to make the necessary preparations. Everything from financial plans such as income protection, investments, and pensions to government programs such as health insurance and Social Security programs and even career assessments to make sure you spend your twilight years doing the job you love. All of that and more will be discussed in this book because Reconfigurement is all about planning ahead.
What I like the most about this book are the jokes. The author did a great job in making a book about financial plans so fun to read. I even found myself laughing at the jokes and how the author reacts to them. The author's writing style is also great; it made the reader feel like they were interacting directly with the author instead of just reading a book about retirement preparations.
The main topic of the book is very well written and the author’s explanations are easy to understand and fun to read. Every plan and program is written very well, down to their historic origins; this shows how the author truly understands and comprehends everything he wrote. I even found myself trying one of the links within the book concerning career assessment.
There is a limitation to this book. Because the author lived and worked in the United States, the book only explains financial plans and programs for people living in the United States. Those who live in another country will have to find a replacement for said financial plans and programs. I didn’t mean to say that this is what I dislike about the book; instead, it made me like the book and the author more. The author repeatedly told the reader to always consult with their favorite financial advisor, showing that he knows that his method has limitations and that it is up to the readers to find the perfect plans and programs for themselves. That being said, I have nothing to dislike about this book.
I rate this book four out of four stars because I learned a lot of useful financial tips from this book. Also, reading this book is a very fun experience, not only because of the author's writing style but also because the book itself is professionally edited. I highly recommend this book to people who are nearing retirement age and to people who want to reconfigure their financial life. Financial advisors can also benefit from this book because they can use the advice in this book to help their clients.
