For some reason my answer last time was removed, so I am going to answer again…

It would still be James Joyce, but I think it would certainly end up being more than one beer and turn into a bit of a session.

He could dissect my mind as we toured Dublin’s watering holes.

I would do everything to ever meet Jane Austen and have a beer or wine or tea with her. What a fascinating woman and author. I want to know what she had planned for Sandition or The Watsons. Also really wonder about the characters after their story inthe books ended.

I'd love to have a beer with Patricia Cornwell and chat with her about how she came up with so many stories! I don't think I'll ever be able to read them all

Florence24 wrote: 21 Oct 2021, 10:05 The first author that came to my mind was Thomas Harris. I would love to have a drink or two with him (no beer though, I'm underage  ) because I have a few questions I would like to ask him about Hannibal Lecter, regarding his personal character traits and history that isn't covered in the books.

For example, my little sister, who is also a fan of his books, and I always get into debates about how Hannibal would react to hearing that his life story was going to be made into a musical. She thinks he would be angry, but I actually think he would be fairly amused by the idea. So, that's something I would probably ask Mr. Harris first: "Could you tell me how Dr. Lecter would feel about his life story being made into a musical?" Haha, very stupid, I know, but I'm afraid it is an inside joke that my sister and I are actually curious about.
I think he'd be staging a breakout to go see it on opening night! He seemed to enjoy the attention he got

Ursula K. Le Guin is my current first choice.

I've been reading a lot of her old essays etc recently and especially her thoughts and regrets about the way she wrote The Left Hand of Darkness, things like how she portrayed gender and sexuality and how readers responded to the book etc. I'd love to pick her brain more, and also think she'd be happy to meet someone who is openly non-binary and living in a world where I'm able to use the singular they/them as my pronouns - something that wasn't common yet at the time where she passed.

My second choice, which is slightly more likely by virtue of her still being alive, is Gina Cole. I read her short story "Swim, Bike, Run" for university and was fascinated by the way she structured it, I'd love to know the process she used for writing it - did the twist come first, or the plot, or the structural idea, or the characters, etc. For anyone who hasn't read it, I highly recommend it!

When I think of having a beer with an author, for some reason George R.R. Martin pops up. I imagine him boisterous and devil-may-care, with a side of ribald thrown in. Would I actually enjoy the ribaldry? I could see it going one of two ways. So, after a bit of thought, I'll instead go with J.R.R. Tolkien. I think he'd be the better of the R.R.s. After a pint or two, he'd be pumping out songs about Ents and Bombadils, and we would all be singing along.

I don't drink beer, but I would most want to have lunch with Richard Haight, the author of "The Unbound Soul." As a spiritual teacher and seeker, I'm intrigued by Haight's insights into expanding consciousness and transcending the limitations of the physical world. I would relish the opportunity to probe him further on his personal experiences narrated in the "unbound soul" and how his spiritual journey has shaped his understanding of the human condition. By engaging in deep, thought-provoking conversation, I believe I could gain a richer, more nuanced perspective on the nature of reality and the untapped potential within us all.

Cyde Edgerton. I fell in love with his Southern fiction as a student at UNC, and devoured all of his books since then. He just seems like an interwstimg person who truly understands the awesome aspects of small town Southern folk. He is also a musician and has other cool interests, which would be great to discuss over a beer. :)

I would love to sit down and have a beer with Fyodor Dostoevsky, Tolkien, and Poe. It would be amazing to find out what Dostoevsky was like! His writing is so quirky and his characters are all a little unstable. It makes me wonder if he was too.

Beer with Sherlock Holmes and wine with Jane Austen would be my first choices, and then coffee with GRR Martin.
