Stevie Tenderheart, a spirited child who believes he possesses a maturity beyond his years, harbours a vivid imagination that extends to realms beyond the ordinary. His methodical approach involves evaluating the merits and demerits of every action, even if it occasionally results in flaws within his well-laid plans. Dissatisfied with his name's perceived lack of masculinity, Stevie envisions a childhood where children are bestowed names inspired by colors until they reach an age allowing them to choose their own.

A diligent individual, Stevie undertook various menial jobs early on, from riding ponies to harvesting berries, delivering newspapers on his bicycle, and selling dried tree bark. Earning his own income granted him the autonomy to indulge in forbidden pleasures, such as enjoying ice cream before dinner. At the pinnacle of Stevie's to-do list is a desire to alter his name, a pursuit that comes at a cost of $35, as detailed in "Stevie Tenderheart Books - Billy Jack (The Great Escape)” by Steve William Laible.

Despite the brevity of the story, the narrative offers a glimpse into Stevie's sharp intellect, leaving readers intrigued by his inventive ideas. While the story overlooks details of his educational background, Stevie's athletic prowess, securing first place twice, leads to parental protests aiming to provide other children with an opportunity. Renowned as the class jester and a source of mirth among friends, Stevie's industrious nature takes centre stage, even in the context of the 1950s setting.

In the compact yet engaging storyline, readers accompany Stevie on his quest to change his name, a journey intertwined with the hilarity of the Great Escape. The book, albeit lacking detailed captions under the pictures, unfolds flawlessly. With a stellar presentation and insightful explanations of challenging words, I confidently assign this book 5 out of 5 stars. Suitable for readers of all ages, it promises an enjoyable literary experience.

Is this a children's book? If it is, it sure is interesting. With Stevie the child with a mature mind, children might learn how to think right sometimes.
