Do you hate your job? Are you 10 years or less away from retirement? Is your retirement date just around the corner? Are you or a loved one who is under your care suffering from a health problem or a disability? Do you have a spouse, children, and grandchildren who would greatly benefit from added financial security once you kick the bucket? Do you have a will? These are all questions that for most of us are constantly lingering but never get addressed until there is an emergency or a tragedy. Emergencies and tragedies are life changing events that may, if we are not prepared, dish out more misery than we deserve to our standards of living.

E. Alan Fleischauer's book Reconfigurement addresses the aforementioned situations and more. Fleischauer, in his capacity as a financial advisor, emphasizes the importance of preparing for life's changes ahead of time whether they are unforeseen such as a crippling injury incurred at work, or are foreseen such as retirement. He introduces and explains the complex array of financial tools that exist to help you prepare and assure financial security for you and your loved ones regardless of what life throws at you. The subject matter that is presented to the reader includes: planning, on-line career assessments, life insurance, social security, mutual funds, Treasury securities, government bonds, Treasury bills, ETF's, 401k's, IRA's, Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care, wills, trusts, gifts, 529 plans, donor-advised funds, budgeting, and recommended reading material about career change.

A lot of the material that Fleischauer discusses is complex, somewhat mind boggling, and dry. But, he manages to keep the reader engaged with sprinklings of funny anecdotes and jokes throughout the book. As I was reading the book I felt as if Fleischauer was actually speaking to me. In other words, his written communication is very genial. He turns boring material into fun and informative material. Due to the good experience of reading this book the reader will be more likely to go back to the book for reference as may be needed later. I found no reason to dislike anything about this book.

Reconfigurement is well written, well edited, and relatively short in spite of the fact that it contains a lot of helpful information. For the reasons mentioned above, I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I'm still a long way from retirement, but I'm interested in the content of the book. I don’t think it’s ever too early to start considering these matters because you never know how life will go. I enjoyed your review; it was very detailed and gave me a good understanding of what the book offers.

Although the subject matter primarily caters to US citizens, I am sure it still offers valuable insights that are universal or can be tweaked to specific needs.
