I feel this McDowell's life is messed up. The whole marriage story doesn't sound appealing to me. However, I applaud the summary you gave. The author gave a necessary division in the book but it isn't a big deal so well-done.

The novel’s dual focus on personal detachment and professional ethics is both thought-provoking and emotionally resonant. Through Hiram’s tumultuous journey and Sophie’s inspiring resilience, Coles offers a vivid exploration of the intersection between personal failures and moral responsibility, all while delivering a narrative that is both intellectually stimulating and deeply affecting.
