It looks like an interesting story about how addictive painkillers can destroy or ruin people's lives and how pharmaceutical companies can let it take place if people don't fight back.

“The Prescription” by K.C. Gilbert is story that examines the horrors of addiction to painkillers. The statistics are overwhelming with 200,000 Americans dying every year from overdose and millions of people mourning the loss of family members and caring for people that are addicted to Opioid based painkillers. These painkillers have made the pharmaceutical manufacturers very rich. In Eastern Tennessee three families own the three painkiller manufacturing companies and have made the families multi-billionaires. The main characters are Chris, Shannon, Casey and Gram. Shannon died from overdose after struggling with addiction for more than five years that started with a knee injury playing soccer on the high school team. Casey was raised by Gram after his parents were killed in an auto accident and he was now a very successful attorney working for the state Attorney General. Casey and his special prosecution team decide to learn more about the process with the intent to hold the pharmaceutical manufactures liable for over manufacturing a product that they claimed was not addictive and the doctors that over prescribed the drugs. Their research found that there were more prescriptions for Opioid based painkillers than adult people in the U.S. I plan to read the entire book and hope to see these companies held accountable.

Such a book is skill-intensive to ensure that it is not transformed into a David vs. Cavalier piece that only sings the songs of good and evil. Gilbert uses his creative strength to illustrate the actual problems and add the factual events to prove that this can happen (and is happening) to people all over the continent.

I was thrilled while reading this book as it alluded to real-life experiences, even though the author disclosed that the book was fictional.
-I feel the same way. I also enjoy reading about legal matters and the pharmaceutical industry, so this is a definite yes, in my book. Thank you for a great review.

Corporate greed is on the rise, and it is even getting worse as it seems those who can get away can do anything and still be free. It is heartbreaking, though, that anyone would put profits over the general welfare of people, especially in instances where the side effects of the manufactured drugs are known beforehand. I am adding the book to my want-to-read shelf. Many thanks for the amazing review.

The main characters play a vital role in grasping the problems. Gilbert develops these and keeps the reader in suspense as they get to know about Casey, Maria, and Anita, all of whom present their own histories that play into the larger story.
