I've read many books in my life, but I can only think of a few that have actually changed it. These books taught me about strength, bravery and be secure in myself.
I firmly believe that if you find a book that teaches something, anything, it has the potential to change your life forever.

Another world, another reality opens up in front of you.
As you step inside that world, wonderful moments of true enlightenment take place and you return to your own little world refreshed, rejuvenated, more thoughtful than when you first entered....and sometimes, it truly does change you
For the better.

I am in awe of some writers - most notably - and most currently, Hilary Mantel and her Wolf Hall novel charting the life and times of Thomas Cromwell.
I so wish I could write such powerful prose....

I was at a dark place in my life and one day I picked up a book randomly in the Library. It was Dark Side of the Moon by Sherrilyn Kenyon. It changed my life. It gave me something to look forward to, it gave lessons and more meaning to me than anything at the time. The whole series showed me how to find happiness again, even if that wasn't the original intent.
So yes, I believe the right books can change your life.
