Foundaion series

Post by Ismael »

A great sci-fi series that I've loved since I was a child is Issac Asimov's Foundation series. I read the original Foundation Trilogy in three days, and always looked forward to a new book coming out. Latter on Asimov joined his other big series of books about robots with the Foundation series and it was great.

I am still reading the third book of the 'original trilogy' but so far, having finished two books I am loving it!

I can start with admitting it is true that character development isn't Asimov's strongest side - considering what I have read so far. But this is one of the things I love about the books. The story doesn't revolve around characters but some general concept that changes with time, which I think makes it more real in a way. As much as I really like reading 'character books' and literary novels, reading about what is happening for three centuries is very fascinating to me. And as there is no stand point, şt is very hard to takes sides in the story, which means constant questions in my head asking who do I want to win? The correct answer is noone. Because the books are writing of the history of the Galactic Empire, and in real, unbiased history, you don't take sides. That's is why I am curiously very happy about the fall of the First Foundation. I was honestly starting to expect the entire series to be about Seldon crisises being solved, whic definatley were all very clever but was starting to get a little old. But than BAM! Asimov strikes again!

I know that I have little experience int both reading and reading science fiction, but at the moment, Asimov is unique to me and continues to amaze me with every new story.

I read one of the books, but I don't remember which. It was interesting so I wanted to read more, but I couldn't figure out which one was next. What is the proper order to read them in?

I completely agree with your view of his writing style. I find it amazing that a story told by characters which we know so little about can tie together so well. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
