Who are your least favorite authors.

I'm sorry if I offend any James Rollins fans out there but books like "Excavation" should be relegated to the children's fictions section. After reading this "gripping page-turner" I was firmly convinced that my terrier could do a better job turning out a novel.

Want to write a book today? All you need is a basic grasp of the english language. Here's the "Archeological Mystery" formula: Set your story in an exotic location in which you have only a modicum of cultural knowledge or awareness. Drop in your characters: A bland "everyguy" who everyone can relate to, and a brainy know-it-all divorce who doesn't think she can find love again. Add a little friction so that your idiot readers will be shocked and amazed that these two cardboard cut-outs eventually hit it off.

Add a hidden treasure (preferably something old and shiny) and guard it with corrupt, stereotypical government/authorities/police, or put a magical spin on it by tossing in a few slimey, befanged creatures. Blend well, and serve up to the general public. You have a best seller!

nikki gemmell, the author of bride-stripped bare ( well it was written by "anonymous", but then it became big and she admitted she wrote it). "shiver" is one example of how book should not be written. too uch foul language and sex and there's not enough worthwhile content to read. it overshadowed the whole story. put off completely

I really don't care for anyone who writes Harlequin. I don't love Danielle Steele (so not EVERYONE reads Danielle Steele), Nora Roberts too. I don't enjoy reading Nicholas Sparks - I find everything so similar (sad endings!). I am not a fan of Luanne Rice. I could list many more but those were at the top of my list.

I agree with Anne Rice - I started to read the Vampire books years ago and hated the book!

I also can´t stand Dan Brown - ¨The Da Vinci Code¨ was ok, but any other book I have read of his is like a copy of it!

I don´t mind Danielle Steele, but I no longer need to read any of her books because I can just read the back of the book and I know what happens in the story!

There are probably more authors, but I will have to think more!

Nora Roberts and Danielle Steel there are tons of better writers in their fields/genres that have little to no acclaim and those two because of their names seem to keep regurgating the same storylines/characters over and over with little to no value in their new stories...and roberts will jump on any moving train she can find hence her new paranormal series.

Steel had some of the greatest book moments with her older sagas like Thurston House and Kalidescope it's a shame she's so awful now.

Roberts had some great trilogies early in her career but even those are diminished by the amount of times she has used same characters/same themes IMO.

Nicholas Sparks--honestly, I only read Message in a Bottle and I never want to read another one of his books. My friend said that was his worst one, though, so there may be hope for him.

Stephanie Meyer-- I severely dislike the Twilight series.

Toni Morrison-- *ducks* I just can't get into her books. I couldn't understand what she was saying in Beloved. The words literally made no sense to me. I haven't read her most famous books though. Maybe those are better than the ones I've read.

It looks like we are on different sides of the spectrum. I would have to say that Stephen King is my least favorite author, while Anne Rice is one of my favorites, along with Dean Koontz. I guess it is all a matter of preference, but I don't see how anyone could not like Anne Rice. Her writing just draws you in and you feel like you are actually there. I just reread The Vampire Lestat, and I fell in love with it all over again.

Herman Melville. I have to read through Moby Dick for school, and it annoys me how hard it is for him to stay on one train of thought. He uses so much outside knowledge, whether real or imaginary. He's very hard to follow.

Laurell K. Hamilton. I liked her books when I was a teenager, but I recently read one again and it's like "Hell, I could write better than this." Anne Rice got stupid near the end (of the vampire books. Blood Canticle made me laugh). Stephenie Meyer, the whole Twilight thing irritates the hell out of me. Thats all I can think of off the top of my head. And the amount of vampires stuff out there... I'm never picking up a vampire book again.

Haha, I love Anne Rice! As for my own least favorite author, I don't think I have one. There have been a handful of books I've read and have hated, but I don't want to judge the authors on just that one dud. But to be perfectly honest, Stephen King's writing annoys me much of the time. Besides three or four of the Dark Tower series, I've never been able to make it through any of his horror novels, despite my many attempts.

Kings approach to writing just doesn't hold my interest, atleast not the newer stuff. The guy went back and did a revision of the gunslinger because he couldn't stick with overall direction of his own work, that to me speaks volumes.
