By highlighting the suffering caused by the conflict, Secrets of the Kashmir Valley indirectly promotes peacebuilding efforts. The stories can serve as a reminder of the importance of finding solutions and ending the violence.

War is hell and no one should have to suffer through or because of it ever! However, reality strikes and wars and refugees result. Sadly they are not the only result but at least they are alive to tell the stories, write the histories and strive to maintain their culture. *Secrets of the Kashmir Valley* by Farhana Qazi Is a well researched account of the people, events and stories that come from the Kashmir Valley area. The book easily keeps the readers attention as every detail was researched and is important to keep the history and culture of this area intact although it has been decimated by war. Congratulations on the great review and on Book of the Day.
If you're going through hell, keep going.

Unfortunately, many countries especially the third world countries are just like the Kashmir Valley as illustrated in the book. A well-written review. Kudos!

Well-researched books usually have all the information required for the reader, and it seems this author has outdone herself in research. However, the review didn't interest me and sounded boring, so I will skip reading this book. Congratulations on being the book of the day.

Congratulations on the BOTD award. It's a wonderful book on Kashmir. The region is troubled but its history, and culture far outweighs its negativity. The reviewer has provided a balanced viewpoint. I would love to read more about it.

Farhana's presentation of a balanced perspective provides readers a chance to form their own opinions, devoid of author influences. Thanks for the wonderful review.

“Secrets of the Kashmir Valley” by Farhana Qazi is a book that takes readers on a journey to explore the lives of six million people that live in the Kashmir Valley with 60% of them Muslims. The remainder includes Christians, Hindus and Buddhists. This valley has been fought over by India and Pakistan for the past 70 years. Farhana relates a fair and unbiased view of the people that live with a complicated mix of politics, history and culture. Qazi was very thorough in her research and the result is a fascinating story about the people in this region. Women are raised to be fighters and many of them have served during the ongoing wars. Women also serve in the Kashmir government. A very interesting story.
