I write! I am currently working on two stories! For me it is a way to escape when I am not reading and a way to dream while I am awake. :)

When people ask me why I write, I never really have an answer for them. I just do. I feel compelled to do it. Perhaps it's just egotistical vanity to assume my thought will want to be read by the world but I do it anyway. That is what makes me a writer. Writing is in my blood and I can't always explain what compels me to do it any more than a dog could explain why it wags it's tail. It makes me happy.

Yes, I do, for good reasons:

**Writing was excellent therapy for me and a good outlet for my creative juices.
**It was an easy and relatively inexpensive career for me to get into.
**I get plenty of good feedback from my readers.
**I get to encourage people.

I do and I've already published two books and a short story in an anthology with other authors, but still I don't really have an answer for it...
Well, I like to invent new worlds... And I also enjoy "playing with words", if you see what I mean... This is definitely a difficult question...

P.S - Have you already published one or more books? If so, how do you feel when you get feedback from the readers? Is it important to get good feedback or don't you really care about that? I admit I've been feeling very happy to know people like my books, but that's not what keeps me writing.

I love to wright, it helps me to think. I used writing while my husband was deployed to occupy myself and to keep him with me, metaphorically.

sissybear, I'm sorry, I've tried to post an answer twice, but it looks like they don't accept it, even though the titles are in Portuguese (I'm Portuguese) and the only thing I did was to write the title and then translate it to English.

I am currently writing my first book. I am writing it because I can't find any more books about my favorite subject so I decided to write my own.

That's ok :D maybe you can just give me your name and I can search it and find your books, but only if you feel safe giving me your name.

I think maybe I write because I like to talk and if you sit in a room and talk to yourself you're crazy, but if you sit in a room and write you're just eccentric.

As amcdaniel said, I write because I'm compelled to. It's the only way I can see spending my time in a meaningful way, a way that I enjoy and that makes me feel fulfilled.

I've published two books so far, with the third due out in the near future. Both are doing very well, and every day I am one step closer to achieving my dream of having a life where I can spend my days focusing solely on my writing.

I write because my parents said I would be good at it and when I started I really enjoyed it.

I write because I enjoy it, and because it's my creative outlet - I feel better for having done it (though I regularly have to remind myself of that!).
