Review of "Reconceptualizing Mental Illness in the Digital Age" by Elliott B. Martin, Jr. is insightful, highlighting both the book's strengths and weaknesses. Reviewer commends the in-depth exploration of mental health issues and the unique historical context but notes the author's complex and confusing writing style, which hinders readability. The balanced critique and recommendation for intellectuals and psychology students provide valuable guidance for potential readers.

I feel, and I know the author's research will back up my thought, that rise of social media brought about more mental illnesses then ever. This is a study that I find fascinating because understanding the human psyche and how one deals in this Digital Age will bring about lots of revelations and helpful tips. Congrats to the author for having the BOTD.

By tracing societal perceptions from asylums to social media, this book provides a deeper understanding of how our evolving relationship with technology affects how we view and diagnose mental health. Congrats on #BOTD

When you take a closer look at the way people behave today, you'll realized that they're not mentally stable. So yes, we need this book in our lives! Big kudos to the author for winning BOTD!

Mental health is really a thing in this digital age. It should be considered, and there should be awareness for it like this. I like the mention of some topics covered. Congratulations on winning BOTD.

I am glad that this book was written by a professional because the topic is very sensitive. From your review, I will just sample a few pages of this book and not read it entirely.
Thanks for the detailed review!

As someone interested in psychology, I think this book is for me. I look forward to reading what the author has to say about different topics like identity, suicide and the internet. Thank you for your review!

I'm not quite sure why this is awarded BOTD when not only OBC reviews but Amazon ones rate this book very low for the exact reasons: it's cumbersome and difficult to read. I'm passing on this one.

I can agree with the author that some people use alcohol to cope with suicidal thoughts, and I have come across those people who explained to me that they use alcohol for their mental wellness. The author's personal opinions, historical context, and scientifically researched ideas to educate on mental illness are quite outstanding; however, I will not delve into the book; his style of passing messages is confusing and complicated, which will give me a hard time reading and understanding the book. Your review is nice and captures the positive and negative aspects of the book.

From the title of the book, it seems to show light on virtue and reconnect with past beliefs. But from the review I find hard to read this book.
The writing style seems old school and a bit historic and intellectual. I would prefer an easy-going writing style with humor.

Martin offers a nuanced analysis, acknowledging the potential benefits of technology for communication, access to information, and even mental health support. Simultaneously, he critically examines the dark side: information overload, curated realities, and the fear of disconnection, all of which can contribute to mental strain.
