Working on an oil rig is challenging and dangerous. Many things can go wrong, potentially leading to a worker's death if precautions are not taken. Malvina Lerma's book Kick of Death: An Oilfield Mystery explores the work of drilling on an oil rig and the associated dangers. The author's extensive experience in the oil industry is evident in her writing.

The main character is Charlie, a woman who works on the oil rig in a supervisory position for Triple Play. She also dates Ben, who is from OPI and works in a supervisory position on the rig. The two investor companies are coming together for a joint drilling venture. The storyline delves into the lives of the workers on the rig, and there is a tangled web of deceit and betrayal. The head guy, Chuck, is a nasty guy married to Shirley Meade. She is having an affair with Tony Risso, who is also working in the oil field as a truck driver. Both men, Tony and Chuck, die of extenuating circumstances on the rig. Were they both accidents or were they murdered? If so, why and were the murders related, and who would have a motive for these heinous crimes? Then, after Chuck's death, a fake service ticket appeared with Charlie's signature forgery. Who could have done this, and why? Did someone stumble upon this scam to extradite money from the company?

The book was highly entertaining, and the author's skillful character development made the story engaging and the characters relatable. Despite my limited understanding of the oilfield language, I could still follow the plot. The writing style flowed effortlessly, except for the oilfield language. The book was professionally edited, as I could only find a single error. While there was some violence and murder, there was minimal profanity and no sexual content. I strongly advise against young adults reading this book, as it may be too intense for them.

This book is 5 out of 5 stars for the entertainment value of the storyline. The storyline pulled you into its pages and had you invested. Anyone who enjoys murder mysteries will enjoy reading this book.

This review provides a compelling insight into "Kick of Death: An Oilfield Mystery." With its engaging plot, skillful character development, and minimal adult content, it appears to be a captivating murder mystery that would be an enjoyable read. However, due to the intensity and potential graphic content, it may not be suitable for young adults. 5 out of 5 stars! Gripping action, kept me on the edge of my seat.
