Quest: Finding Freddie by Thomas Richard Spradlin is indeed educative and captivating.
Just hope that Spradlin quest to get Nachman back is a dream come true. The author's writing style and ability to adopt to Nigeria pidgin" English is outstanding.

Thanks for your thorough and engaging review of Quest: Finding Freddie. It sounds like Thomas Richard Spradlin has crafted a compelling narrative that blends historical events with personal adventure. I’m particularly intrigued by the detailed depiction of Lagos in the 1970s and the insights into Nigerian history and politics. Your mention of the author's humor and descriptive writing style makes this book seem even more appealing.

Kidnapping foreign expats for ransom in third world countries is a regular occurrence. However, when there is a political game afoot, then it gets really scary. This book paints a realistic picture of how expats are always a security concern in third world countries.

The review was great and roused my ever-present curiosity. Did Mr Thomas Richard Spradlin ever find Freddie? If he did, how was he able to navigate the teeming culture of Indigenous people and the nation of Nigeria? Quest: Finding Freddie" by Thomas Richard Spradlin sounds fantastic. I'd certainly love to read about some of the political events that took place in Nigeria far back. It was sad to read about the disinterest of the embassies of the USA and Sweden to help with finding Freddie. Their reason for not helping knowing that a human life was on the line seems pretty name. It opened my eyes to realize how less valued a life can be considered when weighed against political and diplomatic interests. I read how exceptional the book was, meriting a five-star rating. A great read for nonfiction historical lovers.

Definitely not my cup of tea in both - the genre and the subjects raised in the book. Add to it that, according to the description, it sounds quite political to boot and the last reservations regarding the book left me. Sorry and congrats with BOTD, anyway!

The premise of this book is regarding a purported incident that happened in my country not too long after Olusegun Obasanjo becoming the head of state. Even though a lot of things in the book and the official review about that period about Nigeria was true, I clearly disagree about the insinuation that "Nigeria was an environment that shares some resentment and sentiments towards the Jewish community due to some political issues" since we never had such issue at such time... Also, the prerogative that the accent based version of english in Nigeria was called "a popular local vernacular" in a country with over 900 native languages when it was only spoken by a few to english speaking foreigners was quite wrong as well. Excluding those and the note that nigerian's economy "wasn't that bad at the time" when Nigeria had a stronger currency than the US at the time, the rest of the story was enjoyable and fascinating. In my opinion, I feel like a review from a native would be more inspiring and criticizing about this book. Kudos and congrats to the author for the book of the day though.

The mix of historical events, political tension, and the author's humorous writing style makes it sound like a compelling read. I'm particularly intrigued by the detailed descriptions of 1970s Nigeria and the author's personal experiences.
