I tend to believe that self-help type books are most helpful when they challenge the reader to take action and reflect on their own lives in meaningful ways. It sounds like this author did this well through the reflection questions for journaling at the end of each chapter. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed reading this book despite its downsides.

Lack of professional editing discourages me. And tbh, the amount of such self-help books are staggeringly high. So, unless this books stands out in terms of this content or writing style, I will give it a pass. I enjoyed reading your review. It's honest and insightful. Thank you.

Wow a self-help book that only takes two hours to read, and has such a positive outlook on things is going onto my list. Shame about the grammatical errors, but thanks for the heads up.

Do you postpone pursuing your dreams because you lack self-confidence? Are you constantly worried about how other people think of you? Are you unhappy because of negative thoughts and self-hate? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should read Self Love: Journal Your Journey by Natalie Bears.

I believe that most individuals tend to have more negative thoughts about themselves than positive ones. For many, it's a struggle to balance negative thoughts with feel-good moments and small victories. Why can’t people feel happy most of the time? The author addresses this problem by posing thought-provoking questions, using positive language, and coaching the reader to change their negative mindset to a positive one.

I found Bears’ writing style uplifting, supportive, and humorous. The author wrote a comment that resonated with me and made me chuckle. It was: “What other people think of you is none of your business now or ever.” As I continued reading, I thought, "This is positive guidance many people need."

Bears started the book’s chapters with quotes from famous people about self-love and making a difference in the world. These famous people included Mother Teresa, Charlie Chaplin, Oscar Wilde, Buddha, Steve Maraboli, Audrey Hepburn, Anne Frank, Laverne Cox, Sally Field, and Mahatma Gandhi. These quotes added credibility to the guidance offered by Bears. At the end of each chapter, Bears posed a thought-provoking question and encouraged the reader to keep a journal of their thoughts, intentions, and things that made them happy. The journal was intended to bolster the reader’s commitment to positive change.

I liked that the book was relatively short in length. I read it in two hours. The repetition of ideas throughout the book was necessary to drive home the salient points. It was a form of cheerleading and did not bore me. However, there were a couple of downsides. The author used some run-on sentences that were difficult to understand, and I noticed some hard-to-ignore grammar mistakes.

Overall the book was inspiring, eye-opening, supportive, and convincing. Anyone who reads this book will learn to love themselves and stop worrying about what other people think of them.

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars. I deducted one star because of the mentioned downsides. Professional editing will help to remedy these problems.

Great review, Gerry. It really is a wonder how no matter what we do, we can never seem to be truly happy, and I'm kind of interested to see what this author has to say about it. Since this looks like a light read, would you say it's still satisfying, or does it treat its theme somewhat shallowly?

The book sounds really useful. I'm glad to hear that it's a quick read. Sometimes self-help books can be long-winded and I lose interest. I appreciate the thorough review that outlines both the strengths and weaknesses of the book.

If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot love others. Thus, self-love becomes important, and this book becomes important, too. I am glad this book was reviewed by such a great reviewer. :D

Hi, Ludovica. The author is good at convincing the reader to change their pattern of thinking. There is a journal to keep as well with each chapter. This book could be refreshing for anyone who cares too much about what others think of them. The author is very much a cheerleader. :techie-studyinggray:

I like the idea of not paying attention to the opinions of others, as they often judge us according to what they think is right for them and not for us. in spite of the downsides you mentioned the book seems interesting to me. Thank you Gerry for well written review.

I really appreciate the inclusion of inspirational quotes from people who have overcome difficulties and 'made a difference in the world.' The fact that the book is short is also great because anyone can reread it whenever they need motivation. After reading your review, I'm excited to pick up the book at the first opportunity. Thank you for the informative and interesting review, as always, Gerry! :tiphat:

Experiencing self-doubt is a common part of life, and I greatly appreciate authors who share valuable ideas and life lessons to bolster self-esteem. This book, written by one such author, is particularly noteworthy for its focus on self-love and practical activities to ensure a happy life. The review is excellent and effectively captures the essence of the book, highlighting both its strengths and weaknesses. Since the positives outweigh the negatives, I will definitely be adding this book to my collection and look forward to delving into it.
