Error report guidelines

Some grammar rules (and embarrassing mistakes!) transcend the uniqueness of different regions and style guides. This new International Grammar section by OnlineBookClub.org ultimately identifies those rules thus providing a simple, flexible rule-set, respecting the differences between regions and style guides. You can feel free to ask general questions about spelling and grammar. You can also provide example sentences for other members to proofread and inform you of any grammar mistakes.

Error report guidelines

Post by Diana Carolina P »

Hello.

I've been deduced 30 points from my review score because in the error report I didn't quote the full sentence where the error can be found. I 've been searching for this guidelines and haven' t been able to find them. Can someone tell me where they are?

The guideline that requires you to quote the full sentence is the in the second point under the Typos and Unintentional Grammar Errors sub-heading. Here's the link to the guidelines:

I downloaded the book but only read the first few stories. I went to work came back home to finish the book. I couldn’t find it again. Please remove me from the book club. I do enjoy reading however, I do not enjoy being harassed to complete a task when I can’t get back to the literature.

This happened to me with the first few reviews I wrote. I didn't understand at all what the editor was talking about. Then, one of the editors clearly explained to me that I had to write the full sentence when listing the errors. Strangely enough, I had read the guidelines but didn't notice that detail! It cost me a lot of points.

I thought It's only me who had that problem. I recently got the same issue with my review.

I just encountered this same problem! I'm not sure why that tidbit seems so hidden in the Guidelines. Luckily my second Editor was very clear in explaining where I had gone wrong. It's only my second review, so I suppose there is always going to be a learning curve, but I'm encouraged to hear that I'm not the only person who made that mistake.

I can't even relate to this. My first review is complete but it hasn't been published yet and I just submitted my second review.

I had the same issue. Thankfully, on my 3rd attempt the reviewer explained the guidelines better. (I had read them, but misunderstood things) However, after fixing that issue, the last report said I didn't substantiate my 4/5 rating well enough. Shouldn't all errors be listed so I don't have to fix the review multiple times? Does the same person recheck fixed reviews or is it different people with different opinions? I'm new to this and trying to figure it out still! Thanks

Unfortunately, you cannot correct a review once it's been submitted. It will likely be scored and returned.

Hello,
The good news is that once you make a mistake, you typically don't make the same mistake. The less good news is that sometimes this can take a while. Almost all of us (including yours truly) have had rejected reviews. Editors are only asked to list four errors. So, if there are a lot of errors, a person could end up, like you say, fixing the review many times. If you're asked to fix the errors, please don't assume that the only errors are the ones that are listed. Also, don't assume that the only guidelines that weren't followed were the ones listed by the editors. Each review is put into a queue. Then, an editor is randomly assigned one. This means that there is a good chance that different people are reading and editing your review.

Hello, I got a review rejected for not being able to leave reviews on Amazon due to not spending $50 and id like to report an error report but there is no options I'd appreciate if a moderator would cancel the review.

Hi! Is there any way I can ask for my first review to be scored with every single error listed? I would like to know all the errors I make so I can correct them in the future. Editors only listing up to four errors on a review isn't helpful to people who make more errors and don't know what they are.

Unfortunately, that is how the computer program is set up. Maybe, the the future, they can revise the program if enough reviewers are interested in it.

Yep, that happened to me once too. I had read the guidelines and also quoted the sentences with errors. But I missed the tiny detail I needed to quote them in full. It cost me 30 points. Since then, I have been super careful and have always visited the guidelines once before submitting any review.
