Lovely review with very descriptive language to understand chess strategies, but unfortunately I will have to pass this book, because I never had any desire to learn how to play. Apologies and congratulations on BOTD!

Learning about the history of chess must be quite interesting. It's good that the book caters for novices and experienced players. All the opening moves explained, tactics and strategies should be very helpful. Reading about famous chess players also sound fascinating. Thank you for the insightful review.

Chess has never really been my game, but this does seem like an excellent choice if I ever choose to get into the game to learn more about it and how to play.

I've always been fascinated by chess but haven't carved out enough time to study it. So I believe this book was perfect for me. Not only did I have to learn about tactics, learning the history behind chess was mind-blowing, I couldn't believe it had existed that long.
Kudos to Eric for the use of images too, there was no way you would read the book as a chess lover and not enjoy and learn from it.

I have never played chess before, I never learned so this is not the type of book I would usually be drawn to. While I do not fit into the two categories the book is recommended to, I must admit that talking about its origin (never would have imagined chess has ancient roots) and strategies caught my attention. The book might even motivate me to try and learn to play chess.

“Chess Strategies for Beginners” by Eric H. Schuelke is a very helpful guide for chess beginners and novices. I have not played chess since graduate school almost 50 years ago so I plan to use this book to re-learn the basics and get back to my skill level in 1975. This book is full of helpful tips which will enable me and other readers to improve our chess skills. Simple to understand language makes this a wonderful book that is easy to follow while looking at a chessboard. The history of chess is detailed and moves made by chess masters are clearly explained. This is an excellent book that I will begin reading tonight. My wife bought me a U.S. Civil War chess game many years ago and I will finally be able to use it.
