Xander Davidson often experiences lucid dreams. In these dreams, he interacts with a character named Kaito Takumi and begins jotting down details in a notebook after some time. In the first chapter, the reader encounters two men discussing how to impart critical lessons to him. Xander’s life, however, is marred by vicissitudes. After years of bullying from peers and teachers, he suffers the loss of his mother. Was her death due to natural causes, or was she killed? His stepfather, Bob, marries Cheryl, who mistreats Xander while favoring her own children, Erica and Eric, who spend their time playing video games. Xander is left to work alone on the farm.

Things take a tougher turn when Bob enlists in the Marines and is deployed. He knows the challenges his stepson is going through and requests help from his friend, Mark Smith, who is returning home after his tour. Mark helps by picking up and dropping off Xander at the dojo for his aiki-jujutsu lessons. At the dojo, Xander befriends Tim Morris and Tim Collins. He also meets the love of his life, Jayne, but their relationship faces imminent challenges and opposition. Will they prevail?

Conversations with a Sage: Mystic Dream Walker Book 1 is a science-fiction novel by Rand Law. While Xander is the central character, the other characters are also well-developed and play significant roles. Initially, the plot appears simple, and it takes some time to appreciate the character-driven nature of the story. Despite expecting more action based on the book’s description, the unique approach piqued my curiosity and made the story enthralling. The twists and turns add to the thrill, particularly the incident at a camp in South Carolina where the Red Team spends a night in the jungle.

The book balances entertainment with thought-provoking themes and enlightenment. Although it includes action-packed scenes, they are not frequent, making the book suitable for readers who enjoy a broader perspective on life. Action is integrated into the story's tapestry, emphasizing that discipline and knowledge are paramount, even over power. The novel also highlights sustainability and environmental consciousness, with Xander noting the government's neglect of scientific solutions and working on ideas like a solar shielding device.

Despite encountering some errors in the book, which led me to rate it four out of five stars, there was nothing else I disliked. Conversations with a Sage: Mystic Dream Walker Book 1 is a fascinating blend of the natural and supernatural, filled with gripping events and meaningful messages.

This novel mixes some tropes that are quite mundane with some supernatural ones to create a story with thought-provoking themes, so I hope the author does proper proofreading to prevent distractions while reading. Thank you for your great review!
