Review of Alaska Deadly
"Alaska Deadly" by J. L. Askew is a mystery novel that presents a thrilling plot with a stunning Alaskan landscape as the main setting. The story centers around an unfolding case pursued by the main character, Cooper North, a professional detective. One day in Kodiak, North receives a new case involving a series of mysterious deaths in a small town and soon realizes that it is not as ordinary as it seems.
Through the storytelling, the author does an excellent job of giving the reader a picture of what it means to be in the Alaskan wilderness, which at times feels like an actual character in the novel. These two aspects make the environment realistic and cruel, creating the effect of a man against nature and desperation. With the help of fabulous descriptions of the shades and the wind, Askew shares with readers not only the stones and the icy surface of the Alaskan land but also the feeling of coldness and frost that embraces people in this region.
The author has masterfully developed the plot line with twists and surprise elements present right up to the last page. Cooper North has good characterization, demonstrating aspirations, resourcefulness, and sensitivity to a hurting heart. Secondary characters like the local police and other citizens contribute to the progression of the story and improve its overall plot, making it more layered and engaging.
The writing skills employed in the novel are superb, especially because Askew does not complicate any of the narratives. The writing style is simple and engaging, making the novel brisk throughout. Another aspect that is highly realistic in the story is the dialogue, which empowers the narrative with a much-needed tint of tension. One can easily tell that the author has a rich background in dealing with procedures, adding credibility to some of the procedures described in the story.
There is one significant observation worth discussing: the text is well-edited, and there is no sign of typographical or grammatical mistakes, which is quite refreshing. In addition, "Alaska Deadly" is free from any scenes that could be misconstrued as sexual, whether partially or fully naked, and there is no use of abusive language.
Overall, "Alaska Deadly" is a thoroughly captivating read that combines an engrossing mystery with a vividly portrayed setting. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a well-crafted thriller set in a unique and challenging environment.
