I enjoyed reading this positive story. the author took stock of his opportunities and expressed gratitude for the support he received. the author created strong characters who were outliers. Each of them captivated my interest. The story emphasized the values of perseverance, doing one’s best, humbleness, appreciation, loyalty, and kindness. I enjoyed how the author provided insight into the main characters' thoughts, sharing their hopes, doubts, and opinions. I recommend this novel for readers who love historical fiction, science, technology, and romance. I couldn't find any aspects to dislike about this book.
While reading this book, I learned about the University of British Columbia, scientific research projects, how a university can assist gifted students, how one can become a test pilot for the RCAF, and how truly love can conquer all obstacles. So get the book and download it.

Your review is very informative, Gerry! I have sampled a few opening pages, those where classmates were bullying Delbert and he noticed Sylvia who wasn't but he was worried about thanking her so the bullies would not turn on her. Your review has put this episode into perspective of what achievements to expect from Delbert despite the bullying. I agree that this book deserves top rating, as the very least for bringing up so vividly the highly topical issue of bullying at schools.

**Book review**:-**Life Shattered** by Sandy Graham is a captivating and inspiring novel that delves into the life of Delbert Pillage, a high school student facing relentless bullying and extreme poverty. The story poignantly captures Delbert’s struggles with his appearance, his ragged clothes, and a frail body, which make him a target for bullies who mock, humiliate, and steal from him. However, amidst the adversity, Delbert’s extraordinary intellect and unique perspective shine through.

The novel beautifully illustrates Delbert’s journey from a troubled high school life to a successful future. Key to his transformation are a shy yet supportive friend named Sylvia and a perceptive math teacher who recognizes and nurtures his potential. Their encouragement helps Delbert navigate his challenges and eventually rise above them.

Sandy Graham skillfully integrates detailed insights about the University of British Columbia, scientific research, and the path to becoming a test pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force, adding depth and authenticity to Delbert's story. The author’s depiction of Delbert’s scientific endeavors and jet flying experiences vividly portrays the workings of a gifted mind, making the narrative both engaging and educational.

The book’s characters are well-developed and relatable, evoking empathy and support from the reader. As Delbert’s community rallies around him, the reader becomes part of this supportive network, cheering for his success. The technical aspects of the story are well-researched, enhancing the overall credibility of the plot.

Life Shattered is a heartwarming and uplifting read that highlights essential values such as perseverance, gratitude, humility, loyalty, and kindness. It offers profound insights into overcoming adversity and the importance of a supportive community. I highly recommend this novel to readers aged 16 and up who appreciate historical fiction, science, technology, and romance. There is nothing to dislike about this book, earning it a well-deserved rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
