Review of Call Me Adam
Call Me Adam by Jo McCarty is a unique post-apocalyptic thriller. It tells the story of a man named Louie who can not seem to die. The major problem with that is that he does not want to live. While the rest of the world is struggling in an apocalyptic crisis, Louie is actively trying to die but finds himself resurrected repeatedly. All of this changes when he finds himself dreaming of a mysterious girl named Katherine.
This action-packed novel tells a story of redemption, new beginnings, and how to find hope and love even in the darkest of times. Together, Louie and Katherine will find a way to persevere and a reason to live.
The major aspect that I enjoyed about this book was the character development. Both Louie and Katherine felt like real people, and I enjoyed seeing them grow and how they interacted with the situation around them. Another thing that I enjoyed was the unique story and plot line. The twists in the book were surprising and engaging. Nothing about this book felt bland or unoriginal at all.
On top of that, the author does an amazing job of drawing the reader in. I truly felt the suspense and emotions of the characters. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and truly wanted to see where the story was going.
The only thing that I disliked about this book was its fast pace. While I did love seeing the action and appreciated that the book was constantly interesting, I would have liked it if the author had slowed down a bit and let the reader process the situation before moving on to the next major thing. Slowing down the pace could have helped add more depth to the situation and the world-building.
I would like to add that this book does deal with some mature themes, such as suicide, assault, and graphic descriptions of violence. While the author does do a good job of tactfully handling these topics, it would be best to avoid this book if any of this could be a trigger.
Overall, I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars. The writing was excellent, and I noticed no grammar or editing mistakes. The plot and storyline were unique and interesting. In addition to this, the characters were well-developed. Altogether, the book was engaging and executed beautifully. The only thing I would have changed was the pace. I would recommend this book to mature readers interested in a post-apocalyptic adventure who love a bit of romance.
