It makes me happy to think that after I die, someone's quality of life can be improved, so I've put myself on the organ donor list.

It's a very personal decision. Some people don't believe in donating their organs due to their religious beliefs. If someone didn't donate their organs, I would look down on them. I wouldn't donate my organs due to my own religious beliefs. I would donate other parts though.

Im too old. No one would want my old worn-out body parts. They might come with a 30 day warranty, but I dont think they would last much longer than that. No refunds.

A very personal decision indeed. I myself made the decision to be an organ donor but I think it's up to the individual person and how they feel about it. If I'm dead and my organs can be used what use do I have for them, might as well give them to somebody that can .

I'm currently not an organ doner due to spiritual reasons but it's not set in stone and maybe one day my logic will kick in and i'll change my mind.

Ya why not since I will no longer need my organs why would I keep them? I'd rather give them to some needy child who will put them to good use!

I want to but I get some don't like I am not 100% sure I'm going to. My brother showed me this news thing that was also on the tv show Worst Fears that there was this guy who was dead like he had no pulse but they didn't check anything else. Apparently he was alive and was too shocked to say anything and he died when they took out the first organ. I know it's not gonna happen because they are more careful now but it's still scary.

I think that is a lot of peoples fears. At least I share your feelings. I chose to be an organ donor but thinking about it I know I am afraid of firing and not really being dead. There was an article about a week ago talking about an elderly lam who was pronounced dead and the coroner noticed the body bag moving when the man woke up and started kicking, he died a week later but that is still scary/interesting stuff.

I'm a HUGE advocate for Organ Donation. My husband was born with only 1/8 of one kidney and so between very personal experience there as well as a community we've found with a range of organ donation related problems, it's a no brainer for me. I'm in the process of being evaluated to donate a kidney now. I would donate part of my liver if needed. I donate blood as often as I can and my BMI is not high enough to donate double reds. I'm also pondering the idea of bone marrow donation. So basically, I'm trying to do everything that I can now while alive; and when I'm gone I want them to use everything they can to help others. Why would you pass up a chance to save lives? There are hundreds of thousands of people just in my own country in need of life saving organ transplants, who need blood and bone marrow, etc. To me there is no excuse not to help when able. There is no religion or spirituality that truly forbids it...and why would you? What could be more spiritual and/or closer to what any god/divine power would want than to literally save lives? You could be saving someone's parent, or spouse, or child. A young person who could go onto change the world. There's nothing all negative about that.

Actually, not necessarily. If you're in the US, you can be a donor at virtually any age...there was recently an 86 year old kidney donor who did quite well, as did her recipient!

That's a common, and unfortunate rather media-sensationalized fear. They do not even check or inquire if you're an organ donor before death. They do everything that they would for any other person to save your life as your directive indicates (some people choose not to be kept alive on vents, etc., others choose for all measures to be taken to prolong their life). Only after all measures have been exhausted and you've been 100% confirmed deceased {same process as anyone goes through, donor or not} do they look to see if you have indicated a wish to donate and/or speak to your family about it.

I understand that it could save a life but for me that concept is to creepy. I really would not want a piece of my body to be put into someone else's and just thinking about it gives me the shivers....
