Review of On Becoming a Critical Thinker: Awakening Your Business Superpower
What is critical thinking? Is it a skill? Is it an attitude? Where and how can you apply it? How do critical thinkers see the world? On Becoming a Critical Thinker: Awakening Your Business Superpower by John Chetro Szivos not only answers some of those questions (and more), but also explores how to develop critical thinking to improve, not only analytical and problem-solving abilities but also relationships.
The book has three sections, meant to help the reader understand how the brain works, create the necessary foundations for a critical thinking perspective, develop the necessary tools a critical thinker has, and identify the skills, and possible applications of critical thinking. This order works perfectly, allowing the reader to build their critical thinking persona as the book progresses. I appreciated the author’s detailed explanations and examples, as well as some exercises that were included in the book. This type of narration helps the reader identify their strongest points regarding critical thinking and those that need work; after all, no one is born a critical thinker.
Overall, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. Often, I try to stay away from audiobooks, as they are not my preferred format. However, I must admit that the audio version of On Becoming a Critical Thinker was impeccable. The audio quality was perfect, it was easy to understand, and the narrator was able to keep me entertained and interested in the book. The only problem I noticed, was that there were a couple of sentences that seemed to be repeated; although I am uncertain whether this was intentional or not. There were no noticeable mistakes worth mentioning.
This book was crafted for those interested in business, both professionals and students; however, it can benefit several people regardless of their background if they are passionate and curious enough to awaken their critical thinking. Because of this, I recommend this book to anyone wanting to improve their business presence and abilities, as well as anyone who has been struggling with their relationships (especially understanding the needs of others) or who has been unable to solve problems.

"Passionate Purpose: A Global Governance Journey" is a compelling memoir by Jack J. Schramm. Schramm is a distinguished public servant whose career spans 50 years across state, federal, and international levels. Schramm began his political career as an elected member of the Missouri House of Representatives, where he specialized in complex, innovative legislation. He then served as Regional Administrator of the newly established U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Carter Administration. In this role, Schramm was responsible for administering all federal environmental laws in the severely impacted Mid-Atlantic States. Later in his career, Schramm worked as a consultant and was engaged by organizations such as USAID, the World Bank, and other donors for senior assignments in 26 countries. His consulting work spanned various regions, and he provided expertise on industrial policy in countries including Russia, China, Egypt, the Philippines, and Afghanistan.
His passion for public service shines through in every chapter, and his anecdotes provide valuable lessons in governance and leadership. Schramm's writing is both engaging and informative, making complex topics accessible to readers. What I liked most was the detailed and organized entry of events from the author’s life. This clear-cut analysis and first-hand look into a public servant’s life were very insightful. Reading Schramm's memoir gave me a deeper appreciation for the dedication and hard work required in public service.
I enjoyed reading Schramm's narrative about his travels through the remote areas of the Middle East, Pakistan, and India. The sarcasm and humor depicted in that chapter made me laugh. His witty observations and playful commentary brought those experiences to life in a way that was both amusing and memorable. And I also liked the attitude of the author, who never wishes to retire from his duties; he describes himself as semi-retired, working at the age of 80. As for the editing part, I only found a very minor formatting issue with a few hyphenated words, so we can say that the book was professionally edited. And there's nothing I dislike about this book. So, I rate it 5 out of 5.
Overall, "Passionate Purpose: A Global Governance Journey" is a must-read for anyone interested in public service, environmental policy, or global governance. Jack J. Schramm's memoir is not only a reflection on a remarkable career but also a source of inspiration for future leaders

Given your positive experience with the audiobook, I might consider that format as well. It's great to hear that the narrator was engaging. Thanks for the recommendation!
