"Donald Trump in the Footsteps of Adolf Hitler" by Geir Sivertsen is a highly politicized view of the similarities between the 45th President of the United States of America and the Fuhrer of Nazi Germany. The book explores the commonalities of their characters and political behaviors and their effects on their countries. Being a retired European, Sivertsen gives an insight on Trump’s rise to power, his conduct as president, and his impact on democracy. It has been developed in a way that shows how nations' move toward authoritarianism is a bad thing, and democracy should be safe guarded. Thus, the book functions as an anti-didactic, urging the readers to remain wary of threats to the democracy’s institutions.

Sivertsen’s work in the book analyzes how Trump, from a television personality and a businessman, rose to the US Presidency before comparing it to Hitler’s rise to power in Germany. This work describes Trump’s presidency and analyzes his appeals to division, the usage of propaganda elements, and agenda setting. In the last part of his argument, Sivertsen warns about the future of America’s democracy if such authoritarian dispositions remain unchecked.

On the positive side, the work carries rich material research and exhaustive study that has gone into its preparation. Sivertsen integrates history features well into his write-up in order to compare the dictator-like power of Trump to that of Hitler, thus enabling the audience to be informed on the dangers of leadership by an authoritarian. The book also describes the necessity of the effective defense of democratic polity and the dangers of falling into unfavorable hands. Its editing was professionally done, and I only found a single error.

On the negative side, some members may consider the comparisons significantly overemphatic or not justified. I have to point out a possible adverse effect of the book’s style, in the sense that the strong language and the critical approach taken throughout the book could also make readers who are Trump supporters or those who expect a more balanced view of the personality uncomfortable. In addition, concentrating on the aspects that can be considered as Trump’s vices, at least in the sphere of personality, may lead to the complete disregard of the possible virtues in his actions during the presidential term. On these notes, I’ll rate this book a four out of five stars; it could still be improved upon.

"Donald Trump in the Footsteps of Adolf Hitler" target audience will be political science students, history, and world affairs followers who are curious about the processes of today’s authoritarian presidents, including the ex-president of the USA, Donald Trump. It is fitting for those individuals who look for specific political forecasts and those who want to obtain information about the definite consequences of Trump’s presidency.

It highlights the author's comparison between the two leaders and their impact on democracy. With rich research and historical references, the book aims to warn against authoritarian tendencies and emphasizes the importance of safeguarding democracy. However, some readers may find the comparisons overly emphatic or lacking balance. Overall, I would rate this book a four out of five stars. Atmospheric tension, kept me hooked throughout.
