This appears a fun and appealing Western, with the twist that the protagonist is a woman. Cinch is dressed as a cowhand and is bent on revenge but is funny and kind throughout. I like that she can handle herself with a gun and her fists.

Cinch is an amazing protagonist - tough, skilled, and determined, but also kind and fair-minded, making her easy to root for.

I will give this book a chance because it has a female lead and I'm intrigued by the character even though it's not a genre I usually read. Thank you for the review.

I tried reading the first three chapters, and to be honest, it was hard to attract me.
I understand the author's desire to present the primitive and wild western scenery, but the first chapter has too much description of the environment, and it does not serve the plot or the character of the protagonist.
Starting from the second chapter, I finally saw the protagonist communicating with others, and the pale dialogue made it difficult for me to believe that this would be a good story.
Maybe for me, a fast-paced story is more in line with my appetite.
The story unfolds too slowly, and the description of the environment is useless and lengthy. OK, I may be too harsh.
However, if you want to find a better story, it should not be too difficult. :no-spoil:

I'm particularly interested about the of horses in the gun fights and how the characters were able to evade being shot. Thank you for your wonderful review.

"Refuge" by Mike Shellenbergar follows Cinch McCall, who, after surviving a family massacre and abduction by Comancheros, seeks revenge. Disguised as a cowhand, she uses her kung fu and shooting skills to track her enemies. Along the way, she rescues Li, a fellow kung fu clan member, and helps him with a mining claim. Adding it to my reading list.

Mike Shellenbergar's "Refuge" sounds like a captivating read that skillfully blends action and historical elements. The character of Cinch McCall, with her unique backstory and formidable skills, seems incredibly intriguing. The vivid descriptions and strong plot have piqued my interest, especially with the comparison to a Clint Eastwood Western. I'm excited to see how the themes of revenge and survival are explored in this book.
