Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz captivated me from the very first page. It's a story filled with love, comedy, action, betrayal, and magic that transported me to another world. The narrative interweaves two realms: Caromentis, a world of magic, and Cosmos, the physical universe, focusing on the city of Voulhire and its surroundings. The plot centers on Galen Bray, an immigrant taking over his late uncle’s blacksmith business, who may hold the key to the kingdom's survival.
The book's flow and clarity are exceptional, seamlessly linking various narratives. I found myself deeply moved by the emotions it evoked, from laughter at witty exchanges to sorrow at tragic moments. For example, the humor in the soldiers' banter on page 14 had me chuckling, while the tragic death of Lord Eldus brought a tear to my eye. The book character development and world-building are remarkable.
One minor issue I had was the use of modern English in an ancient setting. Words like "yeah" felt out of place and detracted from the immersive experience. Old English would have been more fitting and could have enhanced the authenticity of the world Tysz created. Despite this, the book’s strengths far outweigh its flaws. The scenes involving magic were imaginative, though at times they could have been more clearly explained. The return of the mage Meldorath, for instance, left me wanting a bit more detail to fully grasp the magical battles.
Overall, We Are Voulhire is a masterpiece. It’s exceptionally well edited and free of distracting errors. I absolutely found nothing to dislike about this book. I recommend it to fans of science fiction and fantasy, as well as those interested in historical settings. This book is an engaging start to what promises to be an exciting series, and I eagerly anticipate reading more. It earns a solid rating of 5 out of 5 stars for the reasons above.

This book sounds very interesting. I wonder the kind of experience Galen will have from this new development. I am looking forward to reading this book.
