“Play Golf Better Faster: The Little Golf Bag Book" by Kalliope Barlis is a detailed book that targets golf enthusiasts who want to improve their game and go beyond equipment improvements. The book is divided into three parts: These include “Using Your Brain,” “Practicing Golf,” and “Playing Golf,” each of which is centered on different aspects of golf enhancement. In “Using Your Brain,” Barlis identifies the relationship between the physical brain and the non-physical mind, arguing that positive thinking and mental concentration enhance brain chemistry and productivity. The second section focuses on practical skills, stressing that helpful practice is more than mere parroting. The final section prompts golfers to set their goal before they start the game.

From my perspective, Barlis provides the readers with the necessary information concerning the psychological and physical preparations for playing golf. Her style is encouraging, and at the same time, she provides tips that can be implemented by amateur and professional golfers. The author presents ideas in a very lucid manner, and the tone of the book is very practical and easy to follow.

The merits of the book are that it provides a comprehensive approach to enhancing the performance of the golfer. Barlis uses both psychological and physical approaches to her training in a way that considers the psychological and mechanical facets of the game. The tips on practice and playing are most helpful and could be applied to real-life situations. However, some readers can be critical of the fact that there is an over concentration on the mental aspect of the game. The book is very well written and easy to read; however, more illustrations or diagrams could be included to supplement the text.

In conclusion, “Play Golf Better Faster” is comprehensive and informative, and any golfer who wishes to improve his or her game should consider getting a copy of this book. It gives equal importance to the mental and physical preparations, does not contain major flaws, and therefore deserves 5 out of 5 stars. This is a great book that gives the reader a combination of psychological concepts and strategies for the game of golf.
