Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Matthew Tysz's epic fantasy novel, We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies, is the first in the series. It offers a multiverse narrative. The author will transport you to the made-up country of Voulhire through the pages of this book. Galen Bray and Lord Eldus are the two most important characters in the book; however, most of the characters are at the center of the plot.
A young man from the Land of the Princes named Galen Bray sets off on an exciting voyage to the thriving Kingdom of Voulhire in hopes of succeeding in following his great uncle's forge. He meets Rowan, the executor of his uncle, when he gets to Magnum Caelum in Voulhire, and Rowan assists him in getting to know this new location. Galen is offered a fresh start to a better life here.
As the new lord of Hillport, Eldus is tasked with enforcing town laws against an infamous rebel organization known as Riva Rohavi and investigating the horrific murders committed by the previous lord, Meldorath. According to legend, Meldorath took her own life.
I enjoyed the book in a few different ways. First of all, the idea is brilliant and unique. This is something I have never read before. Second, the plot takes its time to get off steam, initially focusing on character and world-building. I find this feature of the author's slow-build strategy appealing. It draws readers in right away and builds gradually to a thrilling conclusion. Thirdly, the author has a very remarkable and distinctive writing style. Every significant fantasy element is expertly woven in a way that is both efficient and well-balanced.
I thought the author's original idea for the series was fantastic. But I would have liked fewer points of view and subplots, especially in the first book of the series. As a result, I found it difficult to relate to or feel anything for the main characters. For non-native English readers, embracing the concept of modern and medieval languages can also be a little difficult. However, this is hardly a problem for the typical reader.
There is some light child abuse in the novel, along with sporadic swearing. However, there aren't any explicit scenes that young adult readers could find inappropriate. This book was exceptionally well edited, and no errors were recorded.
I will rate this book 4 out of 5 stars for the above-mentioned reasons. Both adults and young adults can benefit from it. I will suggest this book to all advanced fantasy readers. Novices can also raise their comprehension skills.
