The cover drew me in seeing 2 cities with a birth certificate. I then read the back and wondered how these two cities could have meant so much to the story. Charleston, SC was the start to her life and California was her second chance or so she thought. After the ending, I felt like her career was successful in California, but her life and love were in South Carolina. The cover was exactly right with the overall subtle color.

There is something very whimsical about the cover. It's eye catching even though at first glance it looks minimalistic.

I must say that I love the cover of the book. It looks soft, calming and can draw readers in. It also depicts the plot of the book, as we can see from the birth certificate.

The cover photo gives a real calming vibe, not a deceptive one like the title of the book. The colors are nice and fit well together. The more you look at the cover, the more details you're going to see. You'll first see the bridge. Then, you may notice the birth certificate. After that, you might see the buildings at the bottom. The color of the background is soothing. The reflection of the bridge could have been a little more faded, though.

I like the cover of this book quite a lot. It is engaging to look at without giving too much about the novel itself. Yet it is related to the novel in a subtle way which I liked.

I think that the San Francisco bridge to represent "deceptive calm" is amazing. We all know that the San Francisco Bridge is stable and calm in the sense that many drivers and pedestrians cross it every day. However, there is a "deception" behind this "calmness." Namely, this bridge has been the location of many suicides in the past. In addition, the city of San Francisco has had several social and political struggles that caused many people to flee the city. Without even reading the book's summary, the book's cover and title immediately capture the reader's attention and make you want to learn more.

So many times, this might be the first impression of a book, and it really does have the potential to say much about the book. You could very easily say it's kind of a visual trailer for the themes, tone of voice, and emotions that are going to be contained within the story. If it's a really well-designed cover, it should beg questions and create some kind of connection with the prospective reader, even before the book is opened.
The title of the book, "Deceptive Calm," insists on a hidden tension that one can feel in the image between the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. The bridge is an obvious symbol; one way or another, it means transition or something hidden. Probably, the appearance of the bridge on the cover would denote secrets or a journey in the story.

I love the cover of this book and it was actually what drew me to investigate reading the book. The cover itself is calm...the colors that were used for the background pictures add to that feeling. The birth certificate is key in the story and the bridge represents Vanessa's move to California.

The cover didn't give much hint as to what the book was about, but I liked the mystery behind it, as it added a slice of suspense to the book. It is truly captivating, maintaining its simplicity.

The cover of "Deceptive Calm" by Patricia Skipper effectively evokes a sense of mystery and intrigue. The use of the Golden Gate Bridge, reflected to create a symmetrical pattern, suggests themes of duality or hidden truths. Faded background elements, including a birth certificate and cityscape, hint at past secrets or complex histories. The muted color palette, dominated by greys and reds, reinforces a calm exterior that likely conceals deeper, more unsettling narratives, aligning well with the title's implication.
