Review of E M P Honeymoon
Newlyweds Tom and Kelly Turbulo are on their honeymoon in Honduras. Kelly devoted weeks carefully picking out the prime destination for them to celebrate their new life together, thinking everything would be perfect. However, while out on a tour, Kelly accidentally stumbles upon a group of terrorists. Suddenly, their perfect honeymoon turns into a mission to immobilize their new foes. As luck would have it, Senator Mike McBride is Kelly’s brother and can assist them in their endeavors.
Dorothy May Mercer has composed a greatly exciting book with EMP Honeymoon: Kelly and Tom. Before this book, I read Cynthia and Dan, another book in this fictional world that she has carefully created. I’m delighted to say I enjoyed this one far more than the last. Her writing felt so different – far more mature and enjoyable – in this book. She was able to seamlessly switch between various characters’ points of view by mentioning whose perspective it was being told from at each change. I also found that the often change of narration helped prevent the book from feeling stale at all, and I enjoyed how all of the characters tied into each other.
This book was relatively short, about 230 pages, so it was a very quick read. I genuinely enjoyed that aspect as everything moved so quickly. It felt like the perfect number of pages to get the story wrapped up. Although with that being said, I do believe this book would have benefitted slightly from slowing down at some points. While the speed was mostly enjoyable, sometimes it did feel as though she was rushing through conflicts. Something that I did find helpful is at the end she included some extra information clarifying some of the more obscure scenes.
I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I genuinely enjoyed my time reading this book. It was exceptionally well edited, and my one tiny complaint did not take away from my evident enjoyment at all. I appreciated the fact that we were able to see some characters from her other books appear as well. I would love to see how the author adds to the world she’s created. As a result of all the reasons listed above, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
I would recommend this book to readers who typically enjoy a fast-paced and energetic story full of adventure. The book contains some light swearing throughout so I believe it would be more suitable for readers from 16 years of age upwards.

“In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk. Their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun.” ― Madeline Miller, The Song of Achilles
