Review of The Perils Of Policing: From My Perspective

The Perils Of Policing: From My Perspective by Dorothy Marie Taylor Gipson is a nonfiction book that offers a compelling memoir of a retired female military veteran and former police officer. Gipson provides an honest, behind-the-scenes look at the realities of working in law enforcement, highlighting the challenges and biases she faced as a woman in a traditionally male-dominated field. Through her personal experiences, she sheds light on the racial and gender prejudices permeating the profession, making the reader feel connected and empathetic. She also emphasizes the fulfillment and honor of serving in law enforcement. Gipson's narrative is not just a recounting of her career but a powerful call for change, advocating for the inclusion and acceptance of women in all sectors of society. This book is an eye-opening exploration of the good, the bad, and the necessary reforms in policing, leaving the reader motivated and hopeful for a more inclusive future.
What I liked most was seeing a woman's opinion from a minority group on a topic usually discussed by people who have no idea what they are doing. Privileged politicians often talk about police reform, but they do not understand the subject. Their speeches are just a way to garner votes. As a woman and an African-American, the author has experienced the problems and prejudices firsthand and is more than capable of offering solutions. Her ability to do so is truly remarkable and should leave the reader feeling confident and reassured. The book also includes several biblical passages, and the author's desire to serve her community is worthy of praise. Her courage in sharing her experiences and proposing solutions is genuinely inspiring and deserves our utmost respect.
On the downside, there is no downside. The author shared her experiences and proposed improvements that could be implemented impartially and honestly in the American police force. I found three grammatical errors, but nothing too serious. Other than that, the book's editing is decent. At the end of each chapter, there are messages about archaic procedures that should not be carried out, and I found this a brilliant way to reinforce the message.
The Perils Of Policing: From My Perspective is a groundbreaking book that offers a unique perspective. Both sides of the aisle should read this book: conservatives and liberals. Since I didn't find anything negative to mention, it deserves 5 out of 5 stars. Few books present practical solutions and life experiences from a strong woman who has experienced the problems and prejudices firsthand.
The author intends to reach the American audience, but the truth is that her advice can be applied in many countries worldwide. The world needs a more humane police force that must act with empathy, not violence. Therefore, I recommend this book to anyone interested in efficient public policies that benefit everyone. There is no age restriction.
