My Windows, My Views... My Life and Travels is a memoir about the childhood memories of Barbara McCarthy, up to her adulthood. She writes about her father, an officer in the Royal Air Force who had lived in different countries while working. Barbara struggled with low self-esteem and always looked to men for love because she didn't have a close and fulfilling relationship with her father, whose job always took him away.

I loved how skilled a writer Barbara was and the fact that there was a lot to learn from her numerous travels. The places and the events that occurred during her travels were relaxing to read about. She also knew the importance of friendships and wanted to have meaningful ones. This was a positive attribute of the book and author that readers can apply to their lives.

The writer's detailed description of motions, smells, places, people, and events was part of the things that impressed me about the book. The writer made the story engaging and lively. The eras of the fifties and sixties and the lifestyles of the people of those years were delights to discover. The chronological arrangement of events provided clarity to the book, and there is no way any reader can lose track of whatever they are reading, the events or information. This is because everything in this three-partitioned book is well-structured and put together.

The character's struggle to have a better family because of the family she came from touched me. Furthermore, I learned that situations in life can make someone behave in a certain way that could make them appear like a bad person, as was the case with Barbara's father. His unavailability and preoccupation with work put a strain on his relationship with his daughter and set the tone for some experiences she details in this book. The quotes written at the beginning of each chapter were inspiring and added advantages.

However, I wish the book had a picture catalogue to display all the author's travels since it's a memoir. This was the only thing I felt the book lacked and very much needed.

I came to the conclusion that My Windows, My Views... My Life and Travels is a well-edited memoir because I found only an error while reading. Also, the book is written in an easy-to-understand style, which made my experience with the book more enjoyable. My suggestion to have a picture catalogue will improve the book but doesn't take away from the overall quality of the book. Thus, I rate this book five out of five stars. The travels, adventures, and sentimental stories of family ties will appeal to an audience with an interest in these aspects of life.
