I read several books at the same time, always have. Generally I'll be reading at least one thriller (right now, Lehane's "Shutter Island"), something on history (now "Caesar: Life of a Colossus" by Goldsworthy), re-reading a classic ("Ulysses" many times), a book on science, usually cosmology or physics (a new book on cosmology by Russell), and an occasional book on whatever ("Grendel" novel by John Gardner), and maybe another book, too.

This switching around keeps my ragged brain ragged, ha ha. As a writer myself, I find that juggling lots of books allows me the flexibility I need to write more creatively.

When I was grade school and high school, I'd read four or five books at a time. My habit changed when I hit my college years. All of a sudden, I could only read one book of my choice at a time because I had so much reading to do for my courses. (I was an English major so I had heavy load of literature every semester.) Those years changed me. I haven't felt the urge to read more than one book at a time since then.

I usually am reading several books. Right now I am reading REVOLUTIONS IN WORLD MISSIONS**SCRAPS**AMERICAN GODS**THE THREE STOOGIES**AND A TRUE CRIME STORY. Sometimes I will get a book that I can't stop reading and will devote myself entirely to that one until I've completed it. STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND was a good example of a book that would'nt let me leave it unfinished.

Unfortunately I'm a student so I have to have several books on the go. Currently I am reading 5 books and 2 poetry books! It really is a challenge I often get confused between them all with the themes and characters. As well as having to read for study I also have 2 other books on the go. I can't help myself :-)

I usually have several books going at any one time -- there may be a mystery, a classic, a graphic novel, a non-fiction (maybe history) and some philosophy on the side. I don't find it confusing -- they are usually different enough that I wouldn't get them confused. For me it is good to have a choice -- depending on the mood I'm in whenever I get a chance to read. Also one thing might be on my tablet when I am in the mood to hold a "real" book.

I only read one book at a time, (that is because I can only hold one book at a time!) -snicker-

I generally try to stick to 1 or 2, but right now I'm somehow reading 3! One finance, one classic, & one chick lit...definitely have to be in the mood to pick some of those genres up :)

I always read several at once. My moods change too much to stick with just one.

The maximum I read is two books concurrently. One is a paperback which I read mostly when I'm at home, the other an e-book which I read when I'm out of the house. It's not very confusing for me, because the two books would be of completely different genres - a legal thriller for the paperback and a fantasy romance for the e-book.

I don't usually have too much trouble with worrying about multiple books, since one book takes me a couple of hours, but I don't mind reading several if, say, I forget one at home, or I halfway through one book I get a hankering to read another book. I've never had trouble keeping books straight, when it comes to written stuff I have a very good memory for details. usually the main characters name or another detail is enough to bring back anything that's already happened in the book, no matter how much time I let go by.

I like to read one at a time so I can give it my full concentration. Plus I can get done faster if I only do one.

I usually can only read one novel at a time, but if it's something other than a novel, like short readings or self help books, then I can start those while I'm reading a novel.

I try not to read lots of different books at once however at one time I read about 4 or 5 books. I find it really difficult to switch though!
