The cover is intriguing and likely reflects the tension and turmoil within the story. It’s a significant factor in drawing readers in, especially given the dramatic and emotional themes at play in the narrative. As someone who appreciates meaningful covers, I think it captures the essence of the book well, blending both calm and the storm of conflict.

I thought the cover of "Deceptive Calm" was hauntingly beautiful and effectively captured the essence of the story. The calming imagery contrasts cleverly with the title, hinting at the turmoil and secrets lurking beneath the surface. It's a thought-provoking design that grabs your attention and invites you to dive in.

The cover is well-designed and captures the essence of the time period and the novel’s historical setting. It hints at the themes of identity and reinvention, making it intriguing to potential readers.

The colours used and the faded, subtle elements give a feeling of calm but then the title immediately dismisses that. However, speaking of only the cover, I think it is pretty and well-designed.

Well I can't say whether or not I like the cover. I'll say it's just hanging in between. No actual reflection of the book's content on the cover.

I think I get what the author was trying to do with the red bridge but the book cover would get a two on a scale of ten for me. It looks empty, void and unattractive. However, this misrepresents the content of the book itself.

The birth certificate that caught my attention was the most notable thing for me. It represented Vanessa's background and kind of brings a sense of intrigue. When I was staring at the cover before I began reading, I was like: Does Vanessa find her parents? Does she become successful regardless? Who is this Sister Rosalie? Finding the answers to these questions were what definitely made me eventually begin reading the book.

The cover is not so special. I did not understand the bridge. Probably it's something personal to the author. It is simple and quite fitting.

I think the cover matches the title and the storyline. The dividing bridge or rather the mirrored bride is like two realities existing side by side. It's like her being divided between her past and present and who she is and what she makes herself to be. It's poetical!

I actually thought the cover was pretty cool. I didn't understand what the bridge meant. But I'm a big fan of minimalistic art, so I loved the art cover.

It's an okay cover. I wish the title were bolder and easier to spot. The Golden Gate bridge reflection could represent Vanessa's double identity.

When I first looked at the cover, I thought it would be about a family looking for a family member who was presumed dead. The theme of racism was not hinted at in the cover, so it surprised me.

I agree with you that the muted colours add to the cover's design. It is almost reminiscent of a detective story cover!
I am confused how the Golden Gate Bridge conveys any of the stories themes, though. Can you clarify what you mean? I suppose bridges can represent a journey and the choices made along it, such as whether to cross the bridge or not and the impact that has on a person's life, metaphorically.

However, I do not feel that the cover conveys the romance element of the story. I think including Vanessa, perhaps facing Tod Von Westerkamp but looking over her shoulder, would improve the cover, rather than including the birth certificate on the cover.

It could be better. It looks like a random cover image taken from Canva. I would have preferred a woman representing Vanessa on the cover.

Thanks for your feedback! I understand your point about the Golden Gate Bridge. I see it as representing not just a physical journey but also a metaphor for the crossing between hidden truths and identity—like how Vanessa's story seems to bridge two worlds: her past and her present, or her search for the truth and the deception that surrounds it.
