last light

last light

on the last light,
squatting,
i stare at my bright
surroundings that are rotting
at the edges.

then, i realise
that beauty
is not real, only ever dies.
a ghost that lingers just beyond reach.

but maybe that is what makes beauty
so special.

oh hours and hours,
it fades.
it’s sweetness turns sour
a fleeting joy in an arcade.

i finally sit,
hoping that maybe
there will be a next light.
