Review of An Angel to Lend
An Angel to Lend by Sivan Kish is compelling. When the main character, Nikita Nathaniel Kuznetsov, states: "They say you only live once, but in my case, it would be a complete lie, as I've lived twice." Sivan delves into Nikita's entire life story, a journey filled with suspense and intrigue. Her characters bring his story to life. Nikita, a musician and actor, is on his deathbed, about to die, when his guardian angel, Nelo, leads him to a stage not only to perform but to face his many sins. Nikita is self-centered and believes he had a terrible life growing up. As the author takes us through his life, we see that Nikita didn't always make the right choices. Nikita must stand trial to decide whether he goes to hell or is forgiven and allowed to stay. The author has two other strong characters in this exciting read. Anastasia Alexandrova is the first love, and Alexander Novikov is the KGB agent. These four lives intertwine, and the author holds many surprises for the reader. Will Nikita be able to escape the KGB agents? Can he find his Anastasia in time? Just how does Novikov fit into Anastasia and Nikita's lives?
I particularly admire the way the author brings the characters to life. One can vividly imagine them and follow the story, believing Nikita is truly in heaven and undergoing a trial. The author's skill in keeping the reader in suspense is masterful, adding to the intrigue.
I have no significant criticisms. While it may be off-putting to some, the author's use of Russian words and some swearing adds to the authenticity and rawness of the characters' emotions, making the audience feel deeply connected to their experiences. The author is adept at making her audience feel the sorrow and anguish of her characters.
The author did an excellent job with her writing; the editor should also receive a well-done. I only found one grammar error. Sivan Kish was a doctor, but now she has become a skilled writer. The author crafts many different plots and can create rich, detailed worlds and vibrant characters. I rate this story a 5 out of 5 stars.
I recommend this story to all those who love a great read with betrayal, corruption, heartache, twists, and a love story thrown in. The swearing might put some readers off, but it did add to the storyline. Sexual content is present but done tastefully, and no great details are present. It is a must-read for all.
