Island in the sun is a beautifully written, with adventures, experiences, emotions, joys and the challenges. Monica carly as a young girl clearly enjoyed her time in Jamaica from 1948-1954 there were also drawbacks .

As memoirs go, Island In The Sun appears to be quite adventurous. There is a level of passion in the writing that is well expressed in the review. This level of description is of upmost importance to non-fiction writings as many tend to be rather dry. The vivid accounts recorded in the book give a picture of both the writers life and Jamaica’s history. Great read.

This is a book about relocating to a new country, narrated from the perspective of a child; the author of the book shares amazing lessons about Jamaica, the place where she and her family have moved. Enjoy learning about a new culture and experience the pros and cons of moving to a country different from yours.

Monica's father gets posted to Jamaica as a principal, and the whole family moves to Jamaica from England. Readers get to experience Jamaica in the early 1950s from an English girl's point of view. Pictures enhance the overall reading experience.

The book is interesting and informative. Descriptions of places and characters is detailed. Authors writing style is very unique and helpful. The book would be of great help for people who are going to relocate or planning to move to a different country. The authors perspective, experience, cultural differentiation, history, family background and the whole journey makes it even more exciting. Nice review!

Despite not relating to Monica's story, I can vaguely guess the work taken to adapt to a new place, especially when it is nothing like where you are coming from. The weather, school, leaving your friends and home behind, and everything else must have been work.

I don't typically read memoirs, so this book isn't for me. However, this appears to be a lovely tale and quite informative. Congrats to Ms. Carly on her achievement and BOTD.

"Island in the Sun - Growing up in Jamaica 1948-1954" by Monica Carly is the author's biography in which she recalls moments in Jamaica as a little English girl. Because of her father's job, the whole family moved to Jamaica.

Adjusting to a new environment and forming new memories can be challenging, but it's also an opportunity for growth. While I typically don't gravitate towards autobiographies, I appreciate the effort put into this work. Well done!
