Review of Philosophies of a Modern Mystic
Philosophies of a Modern Mystic by Justin Turk delves into the exploration of religious doctrine, the concept of reincarnation, and the healing that lies behind plant medicines. What if you could tap into the extraordinary wonder of the world that is hidden beyond physical comprehension? Will you be able to deal with the realization that ensues within? Can you understand the message your dreams are passing across to you? Read the Philosophies of a Modern Mystic by Justin Turk to find out steps towards the attainment of nirvana.
The author explains how religious doctrine or some ways of life attached to religion are not totally spiritual but rather a way of protecting the followers of such religion. For instance, pork was prohibited for the Hebrews mainly because pork was known to carry numerous diseases, and the prohibition of eating pork however became part of the Hebrews’ life. The book detailed the life of Justin and how he grew from a teenager exploring magic mushrooms to the realization of plant medicine and the healing properties that exist within them. The book discusses themes of religion, God, free will, trauma, reincarnation, as well as the quest for truth. Justin beautifully explores the intricacies between our sins and karma and how that plays a role in reincarnation and the attainment of nirvana. The book is structured around real-life accounts of Justin and Lauren's experiences, the documentation and interpretations of his dreams, and how his dream serves as the point of contact towards explaining and giving more insight into the events in his life. The book has a clear plot that is centered on the exploration of his spiritual enlightenment and the harnessing of the healing benefits of plant medicine like magic mushrooms, LSD, Ayahuasca, etc. towards the attainment of spiritual enlightenment and supernatural experiences.
I love almost everything about the book, as the author has a clear structure of the topics and events he recounts in the book. The documentation of his dreams and the clear interpretation of his dreams add a more genuine edge to the book and his encounter with different elements. The introduction of timeframes in his documentation also gives the reader a clear grasp of the timeframe and timeline at which each event took place.
I found a few things a bit unsatisfactory about the book, some of which are the back and forth of retelling the events in his life, and I found the use of certain terms without the presence of a footnote or glossary to give detailed insight about some words and acronyms used in the book, such as DEEM device, mediumship, CE5, and others that might be confusing to readers.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The aforementioned flaws didn't affect my reading experience. The book is provocative and made me stop to think about different concepts and beliefs, such as that of the Free Manson. I recommend this book to open-minded readers and anyone trying to know more about the relationship between plant medicine and its healing to man.
