Thanks for the reply. No, I don't think Ayn Rand would be a light summer read. I just started and book and for the life of me, can't remember it's name and it is downstairs. If it is a good one, I will recommend it.

How about Mean Martin Manning by Scott Stein? It's about a man who has lived in his apartment for years but a social worker forces him into a program to "better himself". It's really funny, but insightful as well.

Anthem isn't too heavy.
Well, I guess it could be, depending on how much you try to dissect it..
Which actually, can become a lot..
So, nevermind.

The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton was pretty good and a pretty fast read.

Deirdre Purcell's "Children of Eve" is a nice read and won't take you long. Another suggestion is The Spare Room by Helen Garner which I also enjoyed & read in a day or so.

Did you end up trying any of these suggestions?

I've got a few that I love to breeze through, but which are also insightful and inspirational- just not too descriptive and HEAVY.

Here are a few of my favorites:
"Calling Home" by Janna McMahon
(about a woman and her daughter who live in a small southern town where everyone knows everyone. The father leaves the family to move in with a newcomer who lives just five houses down from them- it's about how to love and how to love YOURSELF)

"Catch" by Will Leitch
(about an 18 year old kid who just finished high school and is working in the town factory until college, which he may or may not attend. It covers two months time- his last summer at home- and he is deciding IF he wants to live in his town-famous father's shadow for the rest of his life, or move on to create his own legend. Very lighthearted and funny)

"Okay" by Katherine Marple
(about a teenaged girl who runs from home from her abusive father [right in the beginning of the story] and spends the following time with her male best friend traveling across the country. It's an introverted story, but also kept light and slightly humorous while they make mistakes and also learn about themselves. Quick read- about 180 pages)

I've seen you recommend this story a few times across the forums. Who is it by? Is it available on Amazon?

Actually I think I found it. It doesn't have much information on Amazon, but I found it through another site and read a review listed there. It sounds interesting... not sure if it's my style of reading, though.

Have you read any of the books that I've mentioned? I'm wondering if you liked The Life Out Here, will I? I'd like to see if we have similar tastes in literature before I drop $24.99 plus shipping and handling on an author that I've never seen work from.

Not, by any means, that it isn't worth it- I'm just not sure yet. I need more prodding to get me to jump over this fence. Can you?
