Review of Resilient Rebirth
𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘣𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘩 by Isaac Gichiengo is an emotional memoir and a self-help book. A Kenyan boy who immigrates to the United States with hopes held high, ready to pursue his American dream in the land of possibilities, finds himself between rocks—battling financial crises, emotional fallout, and mental health.
Isaac presents an emotional story of a boy who graduated, secured a job, made a family, made wealth, and eventually found himself on the wrong side of history. This book highlights a story filled with racial biases, an unfair criminal justice system, divorce, and narcissism.
𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘣𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘩 is a book I will read repeatedly. Isaac's courage to open up and share his story defies societal expectations of men and inspires the reader. I also loved this book because of Isaac's choice of themes and issues that require public attention. Racial biases in our societies lead to untold suffering for innocent individuals. Unfair criminal and justice systems may lead to unbelievable jail terms for people who are not guilty. Emotional fallout, mental health, and financial crises for men are other themes that require public attention. Believing the societal myths that men should be brave enough to handle life challenges in stoic silence may lead to suicidal cases among men.
Finally, I loved the advocacy part of this book. Isaac devoted the last chapters to advising fellow men on what to do when they find themselves in a case like his. He highlighted tips on mental health, financial challenges, and personal relationships.
While reading, I did not find any issues in this book that could make me dislike it. On the contrary, Isaac's story emotionally moved me, and I felt sorry for him. His story inspired me, and I keenly noted his advice.
I give this book 𝐚 𝟒 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝟓 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫 rating. 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘣𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘩 highlights the challenges marriages and individuals face in day-to-day life; it is therefore an important book. This book exposes the extreme conditions one can face during a life-threatening adversity. The tips left by Isaac are important and helpful. I deducted 1 star due to the typographical errors I encountered. 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘣𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘩 is a book that will help men whose failed marriage has drained them emotionally. They will discover mechanisms for recovering from the losses and adversity. They also appreciate the importance of seeking support rather than suffering silently.
