Books about leaving civilization- Suggestions

Hello,
I was hoping to find some suggestions here about certain types of books.
I'm interested in books about people who leave their civilization to live out in the wilderness or to go on a journey.
Thoreau's Walden comes to mind, and the young adult book My Side of the Mountain.
Any other ideas?

Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer comes to mind. I think that's what it's called. It was a decent read from what I remember although I liked Into Thin Air better.

I was a big fan of Into the Wild. It's a quick read. Some of my favorite books of all time, though, are by Thor Heyerdahl. He was an explorer who tried to prove some radical theories on how civilizations migrated across oceans. He built some archaic rafts/reed boats, etc., and tried to make the trip himself. The stories are incredible, particularly, Kon-Tiki and The RA Expeditions.

I've read some Jack London books recently, and a couple of those might fit.

By Jack London:
Call of the Wild is about a civilized dog that is stolen and sold to a dog sled team. The dog is forced to adapt his way of life to fit his harsh life of work through the wilderness.

White Fang is about a wolf that was born in the wilderness that learns to live in different degrees of civilization throughout his life.

I am considering reading Walden.

I loved Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer and I also enjoyed My Side of the Mountain, which I just recently read as an adult.
he Beach by Alex Garland may interest you, or Gone For Good by Mark Childress, although the journey is an accident.
As a child I enjoyed the books Sarah Bishop and Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell, The Worry Week by Anne Lindbergh, and especially The Island Keeper by Henry Mazer, which is the only one that is exactly what you're looking for.

This might not be exactly what you are looking for, but The Time Machine by HG Wells might work for you. The main character doesn't so much go off to explore, but he does find himself in a period of time in the future that could be compared to finding oneself thrown in among an unknown culture and having to find a way to continue on. I enjoyed it, but it might be a little too science fiction for you (although I usually don't like science fiction very much). I suggest at least giving it a try.
